METHODS OF HEATING
SYSTEMS
HVAC SYSTEM

 Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning is the use of various technologies to control the temperature, humidity, and purity of the
air in an enclosed space. Its goal is to provide thermal comfort and acceptable indoor air quality.
 HVAC is an important part of residential structures such as single family homes, apartment buildings, hotels, and senior living
facilities; medium to large industrial and office buildings such as skyscrapers and hospitals; vehicles such as cars, trains, airplanes,
ships and submarines; and in marine environments, where safe and healthy building conditions are regulated with respect to
temperature and humidity, using fresh air from outdoors.
METHODS OF HEATING SYSTEMS
There are 6 types of methods to supply heat in HVAC :-

Radiators
Convertors
Under Floor
Radiant Heating
Warm Air Unit Heater
Geothermal Heating
1. RADIATORS

 Radiators are heat exchangers used to transfer thermal energy from one
medium to another for the purpose of cooling and heating.
 A radiator is always a source of heat to its environment, although this may
be for either the purpose of heating this environment, or for cooling the
fluid or coolant supplied to it, as for automotive engine cooling and HVAC
dry cooling towers. Despite the name, most radiators transfer the bulk of
their heat via convection instead of thermal radiation
2. CONVECTORS

 Convectors are water-borne and a direct heating form. They

generate convective heat by drawing in cold air at the bottom
due to under-pressure which activates a hot air circulation.
 The convectors inner piping is surrounded by aluminum fins
resulting in increased surface area in air-contact. With the hot
water circulation heating up the surrounding air, a convector can
be explained to acts like a heat exchanger.
3. UNDER FLOOR

 Underfloor Air Distribution (UFAD) is an air

distribution strategy for providing ventilation and
space conditioning in buildings as part of the design of
an HVAC system. UFAD systems use the underflow
plenum beneath a raised floor to provide conditioned
air through floor diffusers directly to the occupied
zone.
4. RADIANT HEATING

 Radiant heating and cooling is a category of HVAC

technologies that exchange heat by both convection and
radiation with the environments they are designed to heat or
cool.
 Radiant heating is a technology for heating indoor and
outdoor areas. Heating by radiant energy is observed every
day, the warmth of the sunshine being the most commonly
observed
5. WARM AIR UNIT HEATER

 Warm air heating systems work by passing cool air through a

heat exchanger fuelled by gas or electricity. Once warmed, the
air is then blown into rooms through vents in the floor, walls or
ceiling.
 Warm air heating systems don’t need a hot water distribution
system (pipes and radiators), so you are less at risk of household
plumbing problems
6. GEOTHERMAL HEATING

 Geothermal HVAC refers to geothermal heating, cooling and

ventilation. Geothermal HVAC uses energy stored in the ground
to heat and cool your home. That way, heating, ventilation and
air conditioning benefit from the free and renewable geothermal
energy.
 In a geothermal HVAC system, an electrically powered heat
pump cycles fluid, usually water or refrigerant, through long
loops of underground pipes.
