Debate Guidelines
Before the debate:
• Identify whether you will be the affirmative or the negative team.
• List two points in the affirmative or negative opening statement column.
• identify 2 points the opponent team might discuss in their opening statement.
• Summarize what you will say in your closing statement.

During the debate:


• Listen carefully during your opponent’s opening statement.
• Take notes of what your opponent stated in their opening statement column.
• Take 20 seconds to fill out your rebuttal column.
• Listen carefully to your opponent’s rebuttal.
• Take notes in your opponent’s rebuttal column.
• Prepare your closing statement.

After the debate:


• Identify one strength in your debating techniques.
• Identify one weakness in your debating techniques.
