BRINGING AN
OFFERING UNTO
THE LORD

TEXT: 2 CHRONICLES 31:4-10

INTRODUCTION
1. Bringing an offering to God is not a new teaching but it started from the Old testament.

2. Christians must continually practice

it for we are required by God and
there is a corresponding blessing with
it.
3. King Hezekiah
began to reign in
Jerusalem when He
was 25 yrs. Old
(29:1).
4. Our Offering to God is a
manifestation of our gratefulness and
attitude towards God. Selfishness and
greediness are hindrances to our
offerings.
5. But let us remember, God is the
Source and the Owner of everything
including your life. So, you have no
reasons not to give unto God.
6. There are Three
(3) important
points we need to
study today.
I. THE RESOLUTION TO
BRING AN OFFERING
II. THE RESULTS OF
BRINGING AN OFFERING
III. THE REASON OF
BRINGING AN OFFERING
I.THE RESOLUTION TO BRING AN
OFFERING – “Resolution means to decide,
determined to do something”.
1.Under Hezekiah’s reign and further
reforms, He commanded the people who
dwelt in Jerusalem to give the portions of
the priests and the Levites, that they
might be encouraged in the Law of the
Lord. (v.4)
2. As soon as the commandment came
abroad, the Children of Israel brought in
the abundant of all the increase of the
field and the Tithe of all things brought
they in abundantly (v.5)
3. And for those who were in
Judah, they also brought in
Tithe of holy things which
were consecrated unto the
Lord, their God, and laid them
by heaps (v.6)
4. Offering (Jerumah) means a present
especially in sacrifice as a Tribute or gift.
5. Bring (bo) means to go or come. In the
Hiphil Stem (causative stem) this means
to cause to go or to cause to bring an
offering or Tithe unto the House of God.
6. “To cause to bring” means you produce
an effect, result or consequence, to bring
about, to be the cause of or reason for.
7. This is an Act of Volition, a decision, a
strong determination. You cause to offer. It
is more than an initiative to offer. You cause
to bring.
8. ILLUSTRATION: The churches of
Macedonia, how that in a great trial of
affliction the abundance of their Joy and
their deep poverty abounded unto the riches
of their liberality, beseeching us with much
entreaty that we would receive the gift, and
take upon as the fellowship of the
Ministering to the Saints (2 Cor 8:1-4)
9. Quotations ( by Kent Crockett)
9.1 “If our offering means
nothing to us, It means nothing
to God”
9.2 Giving isn’t hard if we Love
the Object of our Gift. But if we
don’t, giving is extremely
difficult”.
9.3 “Although we can give without
loving, we cannot love without
giving. Giving our money to the
Lord proves that we Love Him
more than the things we could
have bought with it”.
10. What about your giving? Do you
mean it? Do you Love God?
Remember, Giving our money to
God is a proof that we Love Him.
In this way, you will cause yourself
to give or cause to offer to God.
You resolve to offer.
II. THE RESULTS OF BRINGING AN
OFFERING – “Since the people began to bring the
offerings into the house of the Lord. . .
1. Sufficiency: “We have had
enough to Eat”
1.1 Enough (Saba or Sabea)
means to sate, fill to satisfaction.
Sufficient means enough or
adequate.
1.2 The emphasis is; not only you
can eat, but you can eat all you
can”. There is satisfaction.
2. Superfluous Blessings: “and have
plenty left and in this great store”
2.1 Left (yathar) means to exceed, to
abound, to excel, to go beyond, more
than enough.
2.2 This means that there was not
only satisfaction and sufficiency, but
there was surplus. Plenty left and
there is a great store. Great have been
saved.
3. 2 Cor. 9:8, “and God is able to
make all grace abound toward you,
that ye, always having all Sufficiency
in all things, may abound to every
good work. God will multiply your
seed sown and increase the fruits of
your righteousness, being enriched
you in everything to all
bountifulness. . . (vs. 10-11)
III. THE REASON OF BRINGING AN
OFFERING – “For the Lord hath blessed his
people”
1. When you Cause to offer, you
will produce a blessing from
God. You are the reason of your
blessing.
2. The reason they had enough to
eat and had surplus or exceeding
blessing in store, for the Lord
hath blessed his people.
3. Nobody wants to be cursed by God, to
be in great need and in wants. But the
consequence of being stingy or greedy is
shortage and no blessing from God.
4. Greediness is Self-Serving, Selfish and
Self-Centered. A greedy man is only
concern of His own need. He does not
look to the interest of others even to the
church and to God’s Ministry.
5. Again, if you don’t give to God it means
you don’t love him, you don’t love his
Ministry, you don’t want to obey His
word, you don’t want His Ministry to
Grow and expand.
6. I don’t know your situation, I don’t
know your financial standing, I don’t
know how big is your debt, I don’t know
your relationship with others because of
Money matters.
7. God has a very good solution for
you – Give unto God and He will
bless you. That is the promise of
God. When you give, you are
making a contract with God. Grace
Giving makes God pour out His
blessing upon you. Do it now, or
you will regret.
CONCLUSION
1. God is teaching us to give continually.
Make it a practice and don’t forget it, it
is for your own good and glory to God.
2. Everything comes from God. He may
make you rich or if not, you will live
with abundant blessings with a full
provision for your need.
3. It is always good to be blessed
by God and be a blessing to
others.
4. Whatever happens to your life
and the financial standing of your
family it is all because of you and
no one should be blamed. The
decision is yours. God Bless you.
