THROUGH THE
ARTS❧
Prepared by: Magmuyao, Michelle B.
What is Art?
A work of art is the visual expression of an idea or
experience formed with skill through the use of a medium.
The expression or application of human creative skill and
imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or
sculpture producing works to be appreciated primarily for
their beauty or emotional power.

Vinci
CREATIVITY

Imagination is more
important than knowledge.

-Albert Einstein
What is creativity?
-the ability to bring forth something
new that has value.

-to come up with a new, unique,

original, surprising idea.
5 TRAITS THAT DEFINE CREATIVITY
1. Associating. The ability to make connections across seemingly
unrelated fields.
2. Questioning. Persistently challenging the status quo, asking
why things function as they do now, and how or why they
might be changed.
3. Observing. Intently watching the world around, without
judgment, in search of new insights or ways of operating.
4. Networking. Being willing to interact with others, and learn
from them, even if their views are radically different or their
competencies seem unrelated.
5. Experimenting. Exploring new possibilities by trying them out,
building models, and taking them apart for further
improvement.
TRAINED vs. UNTRAINED vs. FOLK
ARTIST

• Originally received training by being apprenticed to

masters in their workshop.

• An artist who has received training at a college,

university or art school (modern definition).

formal art education. Also

from the everyday world.
ABSTRACT
ART

simplified, distorted or exaggerated
ways.

- The artist changes the objects

natural appearance in order to
Pablo Piccaso “The Weeping
emphasize or reveal certain
Woman” properties.
NONREEPRESENTATION
AL
-has no specific reference outside
itself.
-also known as non-objective or
nonfigurative.
-using lines, shapes and colors to
create a composition.
Looking And Seeing

Whether a work of art is representational, abstract,

or nonrepresentational, we access it primarily through
our eyes; thus we need to consider how we use them.

We can Look at a table and understand the function of

the table. When we get excited about the texture,
design, paint, etc.… then we are seeing the table at a
higher level of perception.
Form
• The total effect of the combined visual
qualities within a work, includes
components as materials, colors,
shape, line, and design

Content
•Refers to the message or meaning of the
work of art-what the artist expresses or
communicates to the viewer. Content
determines form and form expresses content
