INTRODUCTION

 A monastery  is the building or complex of buildings


 Monasteries may vary greatly in size from single building
to community
 The domestic quarters and workplace of monk or nuns
 Isolated in nature and socially separate from the
surrounding populace
 Meditations, prayers and teaching of monasticism
 Sustain with aids and donations
BACKGROUND HISTORY OF MONASTERY
 The word Monastery actually comes from a Greek word
‘monasterion’
 workplace of the community of monks or nuns
 In Buddhism, a monastery is called Vihara or Gompa.
 Monastery emerged around fourth century BC
 . St Pachomius founded one of the first Christian
monasteries in Egypt in the 4th century
 About 525BC Benedict founded a monastery at Monte
Cassino in Italy.

followed the pattern set by St Benedict.
 Between the 6th and 11th century thousands
of Benedictine monasteries were founded in
Western Europe
 After enlightenment, Buddha founded an
order of monks and nuns.

Lamas ruled the country from the 16th to the
middle of the 19th century

 Learning meditation or studying Buddhism is learning about our self. It is so important to
know the mentality of your own mind, no matter you believing it or not this is the message of
monastery that creates the unselfish world and giving the positive messages of true humanity
 Monastery in Nepal has a very long history and cultural bond between the different countries
like Nepal, China, India and many more. This clearly indicates that the importance of
monasteries in Nepal for the betterment of the international relations as well as giving the
positive messages to the world regarding the peace and prosperity.
 The rapid movement of various monasteries within the nation clearly indicates the security
challenges because the history of monastery clearly explain that their isolate nature and work
routine is always questionable

 Most of the Nepalese people are Hindu. With the increase in the different monasteries in
Nepal, might create the culture dispute like in India. So it might have negative impact in the
decrease of Hinduism. So there must have harmonious respect between the religions so that
to create the environment for betterment
 Economy increment through the monastery
CONCLUSIONs
 Now Nepal became a journey destination for Buddhist follower from throughout the world.
There are number of monasteries, schools where Buddhism philosophy is taught.

 The main objectives of monasteries is to give religious knowledge to the monks beside this
there are several activities conducted inside the monasteries by volunteer or different INGO

 In the Nepalese context monasteries are heavily increased when Tibetan refugee came to the
Nepal and Nepal took soft policy

 Support in building the cultural bound between countries and also helps in generating the
constant economy through the tourism

 Timely address from the government is necessary to balance the increase influence from the
international sector and must think about the security challenges .
RECOMMENDATION
 There have been huge numbers of monasteries made after the Tibetan refugee came in Nepal.
Those monasteries are made in the tactical location of city and also very far from the city
which is difficult to keep surveillance for different point of view so, this type of construction
should be controlled.
 To prevent any security breaching from the monasteries the security personnel as well
government banned the activity of foreigner for the volunteer job in monasteries, if it allowed
should be in surveillance.
 There should be regular checking and inspection in the monastery like other public places of
the country so that illegal and unwanted activities can be controlled

 Those monasteries which are made very remote places of country it can be placed in access of
everyone.
 The fund system of monastery should be transparent.
