Comparison Between Concrete Block and Clay Brick
Comparison Between Concrete Block and Clay Brick
COMPARATIVE STUDY
BETWEEN CONCRETE
BLOCK AND CLAY BRICK
INTRODUCTION
Both concrete block and
conventional brick masonry are
strong, fire resistant and insect
proof building materials. But they
have some major differences.
CONCRETE BLOCK :
Dimensions are 16 x 8 x 6
inch.
Grade of cement used for
making block- M53.
The strength of concrete block
is 35n/mm2.
Color- greenish gray.
It is made up of manufactured
sand, Portland cement and
course aggregate.
PROPERTIES
1. It is fire resistant.
2. It gives good sound insulation.
3. It is thermal resistant.
4. Greenish Grey in color.
5. Size : 12 x 8 x 6 inch
MECHANICAL PROPERTIES
1. Compressive
strength - 35N/mm2.
2. Water absorption.
ADVANTAGES
Durable
Light in weight.
Reduces the requirement of number building
units per sq.m.
Strength
Cheaper and Easily available.
It is easy to manufacture.
It is more workable and environment friendly.
Its masonry is earthquake resistance.
DISADVANTAGES
• It doesn’t give good appearance.
• There is less demand for such building units.
CLAY BRICK :
Dimenssions-19 X 9 X 9 cm.
The soil used for manufacturing this bricks has
higher amount of iron content. So it is red in color.
Composition- soil, sand, lime or other concrete
materials.
PROPERTIES
SIZE – 19 X 9 X 9 cm
Well burnt.
Red in color
Water absorption
MECHANICAL PROPERTIES
• Compressive Strength – 7
N/mm2
• Hardness
ADVANTAGES
It has less maintenance cost.
It is fire resistance.
It has good sound insulation property.
It provides flexibility in application.
It provides thermal insulation.
It provides good appearance.
DISADVANTAGES
The manufacturing process is more difficult
than concrete block.
Skilled labors are required for construction
of masonry.
The soil required for manufacturing of brick
is available in limited quantity.
CONCLUSION
