Overview of organization

Cognifront delivers industrial technology solutions to customers that include BOSCH,

CEAT.Cognifront also develops excellent eTeaching Tools used by IIT Madras, IIT Guwahati,
Don Bosco University, University of Oslo in Norway, IIT Bombay, IIT Patna, University of
Nairobi in Kenya, NIT Surat and such 100+ institutions in India and abroad.Cognifront’s
innovative low cost IoT kit is used by 20+ institutions.

 Cognifront also offers certificate courses in Machine Learning, Deep Learning, IoT
that are highly recognized in industry and have placed more than 45 students in
academic year 2019-2020 at top companies that include Infosys, Cognizant,
Zensar, and TCS (Tata Consultancy Services).

 Lack of skills in engineering graduates resulting in unemployment.

 Lack of quality resources in edtech space
 Making quality softwares for students, teachers, institution and private firms.

Internship responsibilities
The internship had a pretty straight forward notion when it came to delivering the work on
paper, it basically had five different responsibilities:-

1. Designing the PCB from the given inputs.

2. Regular day to day progress meetings.
3. Meetings with the client.
4. Submission before deadlines
5. Send the Gerber Files to the manufacturing unit.

New concepts learned
➢ Schematic implementation of the given circuit diagram.
➢ Importing the components which are not present on the KiCad software.
Accurate port connections for the same.
➢ Updating the PCB schematic for PCB board manufacturing using precise
dimensions of the PCB board (EDGE cutting).

7 K. K. Wagh Institute of Engineering Education & Research, Nashik.
➢ Importing image on the PCB board, in this case the logo for cognifront was to be
imported and pasted on the PCB board.
➢ Extracting the gerber files for all the required angles and sending the files to the
manufacturer.
➢ Teaching the next set of interns the work domain.
➢ Monitoring the manufacturing process and correcting the small errors given as a
feedback from the manufacturer.

Challenges faced during
internship
➢ One of the major challenges faced during the term of this project was the
unavailability of some of the components in the software and importing the same
from open source website. The major task in this project was to correlate the
number of ports of the PCB schematic hardware obtained and the required
hardware which was expected.
➢ The logo which was required on the PCB was supposed to be a transparent logo
of the firm, instead this logo which was imported by us had a white background,

later on when the PCB schematic was sent to the manufacturer issues popped
up. As a measure we later on imported the transparent logo of the firm so that a
neat and tidy hardware was obtained.
The holes on the PCB schematic were to be precisely made of 5mm, but
because of the error of the software the accuracy always lacked.
The tutorial to learn the kicad software was available nowhere and it was a
tedious task to learn each step on the way.

It was a difficult task to do internship simultaneously with online classes.

Conclusions / impact / learning
through internship

1. PCB board designing has a wide market when it comes to the industrial
applications of electronics as a whole, the conclusion which was imparted by the
internship was a witness of the same scenario.
So many different industries try to capture this market on a day to day basis and
henceforth it is a blooming career option in the upcoming days.

2. There is no ‘I’ when it comes to developing a project, you always require help
from mentors when it comes to performing the activity. The footprints which
were required by us were brought in by one of my mentors. Acknowledging that
help in this internship was always helpful. New software, different job profile and
new colleagues to work with is always a challenging task for the first couple of
days, later on everything rails on track.

3. Coordination in a work from home environment is a crucial task since online

meetings might evolve misunderstandings in the minds of the employees.
4. Got to understand how to train other students/interns for their project in their
own way so that they can understand the task easily.

Feedback on “How to improve?”
The communication between the Cognifront’s manager and the interns was lacking from
time to time since the instructions were never accurately given, I suggested to bring in
someone for the same so that the bridge of communication will be strong.

In the near future the company will focus on bringing their own software for simulations,
since the KiCad software lacked some footprints for some components.
