What would happen when we don’t
sleep?
• An experiment in 1965
• Randy Gardner
• stayed awake for 264 hours
• That’s 11 days to see how he’d cope without sleep.
What does his body change in the experiment?
• his eyes sopped focusing and lost the ability to identify objects by touch (2 nd day)
• moody and uncoordinated (3rd day)
• At the end of the experiment:
• struggling to concentrate
• had trouble with short-term memory,
• became paranoid
• started hallucinating.

• Gardner recovered without long-term psychological or physical damage


Why we need to sleep?
• It is essential
• If we lack of sleep, it will affect our daily life

• reaction time are affected ↓

• In the United States, it is more than 30% of adults and 66% of teenagers are regularly sleep-
deprived
• Isn’t just a minor inconvenience.
• Staying awake for a long time cause serious bodily harm.

• Mood ↓
• Reaction time ↓
Damage for lack of sleep
• Sleeplessness may also cause
• inflammation
• hallucinations
• high blood pressure
• Even more been linked to diabetes and obesity

• So we can be sure that sleeping enough is a necessity if we


want to maintain our health and our sanity.

• Sleep is good in health and well-being throughout your life. Getting
enough quality sleep at the right times can help protect our mental health,
physical health, quality of life, and safety. During sleep, your body is
working to support healthy brain function and maintain your physical
health. In children and teens, sleep also helps support growth and
development. So sleeping is very important. Don't miss sleeping for
whatever reason
