What is GDS?
• A computer reservations system (CRS) is a computerized system used to store
and retrieve information and conduct transactions related to air travel.

• Major CRS operations that book and sell tickets for multiple airlines are known as
global distribution systems (GDS).

• Modern GDSes typically allow users to book hotel rooms and rental cars as well
as airline tickets.
Amadeus
• Owned by the Amadeus IT Group 
• Headquarters in Madrid, Spain. 
• Originally created by Air France, Iberia, Lufthansa and SAS in 1987
• Provides search, pricing, booking, ticketing and other processing services in real-
time to travel providers and travel agencies
• Transaction processor for the global travel and tourism industry.
• Two key related areas—its global distribution system and its IT Solutions business
area.

AMADEUS
• Amadeus India has its head office in New Delhi and a wide network of
40 branch offices providing software connectivity to travel agents in
the Indian sub-continent to access over 95% of scheduled airline seats
as well as hotel rooms, insurance packages, car hire and other travel
services worldwide.
• Amadeus GDS usage has expanded to 200+ cities across India, with
over 45000+ terminal installations and 5200+ travel agencies online.
Of the total GDS usage in the subcontinent, Amadeus GDS is the clear
market leader.

Sign In/Sign Out Command
• The Amadeus system requires each user to sign-in and identify
themselves so that the users sign-in code can be recorded in
reservations.
• The sign-in command is often referred to as "Jump In" due to the
command identifier JI.
• There are two duty codes used in the JI command, Agent Sell (travel
agents only) (AS) and Supervisor (SU).
• Command Format : JI<agent sign in/duty code>
• Example : JI1234AB/AS

Signing In and Signing Out

• JI 2345XY/SU-PWD : Basic sign-in entry to the first available work area in productive mode

• JJ 2345XY/SU-PWD : Basic sign-in entry to the first available work area in to practice mode

• JI E2345XY/SU-PWD : Sign-in to work area E


• JI A/B/C2345XY/SU-PWD : Sign-in to multiple work areas

• JI *2345XY/SU-PWD : Sign-in to all work areas

• JXB : Sign-in to another work area

PRACTICE TRAINING
• The Practice Training system is a part of the Amadeus Central System where you can simulate
transactions. In this way, you can experience working in the Amadeus Central System without
affecting real flight inventory

• Sign in to Practice Training  : JJ 2345XY/GS

• Sign out of Practice Training : JO

• When signed in to Practice Training in the Amadeus Selling Platform, do not make bookings in
market-specific applications such as Tour and Rail providers, as these applications are not part of
the Practice Training environment.

Amadeus Work Areas
• Amadeus provides six (6) work areas in which a travel agent may sign-in to.
• These work areas are known as Agent Assembly Areas (AAA’s).
• The work areas could be considered as six separate connections to Amadeus where you can create or
modify reservations.
• The six work areas are each given an identifier A through F.
• The command to display the status of the work areas is: JD

• JD - Display the status of work areas

• JMB - Move to a specific work area

• JO : Sign-out of the current active work area

• JOB/C/D : Sign-out of multiple work areas

• JO * : Sign-out of all work areas
