Early Life
Family Life: Born into the small town of Tudella,
Navara, Spain Rafael was the son of the Magistrate’s
daughter Teresa

Education:
● Degree in architecture from the Madrid University school
of Architecture in 1961.
○ Established his own Architecture firm in 1965
● Returned to Etsam to become a chaired professor in 1980
● Commissioned to become an chairman in the architecture
department at Harvard in 1985
Influence
Quote: “Buildings are always better than drawings and
models,”- Rafael Moneo.

Influences: Moneo’s fusion of traditional and modern styles of


architecture allowed for greater appreciation of his pieces.
Instead of temporary standings, Moneo sought to build pieces
that’ll last well into the future. Creating a sense of heritage
between the modern times and their ancient foundations.
Incorporation of straight and parallel lines effectively craft a
noticeable but also a powerful site to behold.

Impact: Greater appreciation in Spain’s history, most notably


at the National Museum of Roman art. Where a mix of roman
architecture and modern techniques have created a place of
extraordinary quality.
