ANTONI GAUDÍ

My client can wait”

-ANTONI GAUDÍ
BACKGROUND

Antoni Gaudí was born on June 25th, 1852. It is debated whether

he was born in Riudoms or Reus. Gaudí’s was not a healthy child,
he had arthritis and was often sick with multiple different
illnesses. He spent long periods of time in nature at one of his two
houses and thus came his appreciation for nature and the work of
the Creator.
EDUCATION

Gaudí moved to Barcelona to pursue a career in architecture and

completed school at the Provincial School of Architecture in
1878.
The director at the time said this of Gaudí:
“I do not know if we have awarded this degree to a madman or to
a genius; only time will tell.“
His genius was obvious to those around him.
ARCHITECTURAL WORK

Antoni Gaudí worked at a time when buildings were very straight

forward and generally practical. Only churches were truly
decorated. He defied this trend and did not regurgitate previous
designs. Inspired by nature, Gaudí invented equilibrated
architecture. It was nothing like what had come before. He
famously used broken ceramics and tile to create mosaics like
patterns on buildings and statues.

DEATH

Antoni Gaudi died on June 10th, 1926, after being struck by a

tram. He was making his way towards the Sagrada Familia and
most people around him did not recognize the famous architect
who lay dying on the ground. He was eventually brought to the
Santa Cruz Hospital where the Priest of the Sagrada Familia
recognized him. He was buried two days later and most citizens
came to honor the loved architect.
