 What is orthosis?
 A device made to support an injured or badly formed part of the body or to help someone move it more
easily.
Touch-sensing Glove

 Aim : To help people get back sensation of touch that was lost due to peripheral nerve damage. The glove
could also restore motor function after stroke.It can feel pressure and other tactile stimuli.This glove will
ease activities of daily living.

We will take all the measurements in inches.

Design Considerations:
Considered highest length of
finger as 72>= mm and diameter
as 16<= mm
And length between wrist to
palm was around 100+ mm and
width is 75>=

 How does it work?

 Surface electrodes read muscle movement in arm and control opening and closing of hand.
 Sensors in tips of forefigners, thumb and little finger detect information about touch

 Information from sensors is translated into physiological signal by computer.

 Digitally refined information is transmitted to nervous system through electrodes


 Nervous system relays information to brain and patient experiences touch sensation.

 Materials: sensors, wire(leads,electrodes) , biocompitable glove polymers,metal battery-operated computer,


etc
 Limitations : 1/ water damages the whole system 2/ Battery isn’t rechargeable 3/ Need to change battery
every week.
 Conclusion : This glove could help to retain motor function and coordination in people who have suffered
a stroke or fine motor condition.
