Philosophy
• Etymology:
* Derived from the two Greek words:
> Philo- Love
> Sophos/ Sophia- Wise or Wisdom
Philosophy- love for wisdom
- the quest for truth based on logical
reasoning
- the search for the ultimate and absolute truth
- considered the mother of all sciences
BRANCHES OF PHILOSOPHY

• Metaphysics
> deals with the nature of being and reality
• Epistemology
> deals with the study of knowledge
• Axiology
> deals with the problem of values
• Logic
> deals with the systematic treatment of the
relation of ideas
METAPHYSICS

• Cosmology
> tries to explain the theories of the nature of the
cosmos (universe) as well as its origin and dev’t.
• Teleology
> tries to elucidate subjects pertaining to whether
or not there is a purpose in the universe.
• Ontology
> deals with the meaning of existence, whether it is
is identical with space, time, nature, spirit or God.
EPISTEMOLOGY
• Agnosticism
> holds that conclusive knowledge of ultimate reality
is an outright impossibility.
• Skepticism
> posts the idea that everything is open to doubt.
• A Posteriori (behindhand)
> postulates that experience comes first and the
knowledge afterwards.
• A Priori (beforehand)
> describes knowledge (urged) can be acquired through
pure reason alone, independently, before experience.
AXIOLOGY

• Ethics
> deals with the morality of human acts or conduct;
the determiner whether an action is good or evil.
• Aesthetics
> concerns with beauty and standards of tests and
value especially in art, or the science of feeling
and sensation.
LOGIC
• Induction
> infers the observation of particular instances to a
general conclusion.
• Deduction
> forms of reasoning from a general principle to
particulars within the scop of that principle.
• Syllogism
> from two prepositions called premises, a conclusion
is reached.
• Dialectic
> discovers truth from an assertion to denial.
