STUDY ON URBANIZATION &

SUSTAINABILITY IN BANGALORE

Introduction
• Bangalore, with a populace of round 9 million people, is the state's
administrative, cultural, commercial, industrial, and know-how centre

• Bangalore is one of the biggest cities in south India. After


independence, this city has become a hub of different sectors of the
economy

• According to Ease of Living Index 2020 rankings, Bangalore is the most


Livable city in India

• The Silicon Valley of India is a nickname of the Indian city


of Bangalore. As Bangalore is on the Mysore Plateau, the area is also
sometimes referred to as "Silicon Plateau“
Literature Review –What’s this study about?

 City’s sustainability can most effective be realised through addressing all 3


sustainability pillars: environment, society, and economy.
 According to the literature review, there are only some studies at the
sustainability of Indian towns.
 On a city-scale, the EOLI framework investigates a form of balanced
improvement that considers all personal, social, economic, and
environmental elements .
 The modern look at Bangalore’s beyond and destiny developments with the
aid of using presenting a composite dimension of sustainability effect of
congestion pricing combining environmental, social and monetary effect
 We have studied many articles, journals and assessed various parameters of
Bangalore and its growth considering all factors, population, transport, crime
rate, future trend, ecological and environmental balance and proposed some
recommendations to improve the Sustainability of the city and living index.
Methodology
 In this study, secondary sources have been used to understand
the present situation of Bangalore city.
 The city's scientific progress during the last few years has been
examined, and an assessment of the city's current condition of
sustainability has been prepared

 As part of this Study, the following methodologies are used to


analyse the overall urbanization and sustainability aspects of
Bangalore.

 The EOLI score is calculated by taking the weighted average of the four
characteristics stated below as per PIB.gov.in, EOLI, 2020

1. Citizen Perception Survey -30 %

2. Quality of Life - 35 %

3. Sustainability - 20 %

4. Economic Ability - 15 %

 We assess how India's megacities fare in phrases of sustainability. To


placed it every other way, the purpose is to evaluate Bangalore with
Mumbai to a sustainability benchmark advanced utilizing a prioritised and
labelled set of metrics.

 Economic sustainability is a set of five metrics designed to assess the

 As per the 2011 census report, among ten citizens in Bangalore, 4
are migrants
 Bangalore city one of the major cities of India where people
migrate from other places to get better opportunities for work,
study and health services
 The state's mobility depends on public transport
 As per a mobility index, bus and metro are the most reliable
transport option. There are many mobility-oriented start-ups. Two-
wheelers in that city are the reason of deterioration air quality.
 Bangalore’s prospect of Mobility idea comprises sponsorship of EVs
and the latest ringway for enhanced links with main highways
Role of Branding & Marketing

 Bangalore has been one of the smart cities of India which has got
its own badge and logo.
 The tagline of Bangalore is Be U and with this type of tagline, the
city aims at achieving better popularity
 The branding of the cities helps them to gain tourists and the other
important stakeholders also get attracted to them. In the case of
Bangalore, almost 180 million domestic tourists have given their
visit and half a million foreign tourists have come to Bangalore
 After the marketing and branding of the city, the tourist's arrival to
the city has increased by 12.5% and it has also created a certain
level of attractiveness in the market with the help of which it is
gaining profitability.
Role of Funding & Sustainability

 Areas, cities, and towns around Bengaluru are expected to grow as


a result of the “trickle-down effect”.
 The center has been allocated ₹ 14,000 crores to upgrade Roads,
pavements, public transport, parks, street lights, and for entire
urban landscape improvement
 Nama Ooru Bengaluru is one of the 30 cities classified under this
name and allocated ₹ 1,700 crores.
 Of the 30 projects finalized by BSCL, 13 dealt with tender SURE
projects at a cost of about ₹ 455 crores, two illuminated the
heritage of Bengaluru by developing Independence Park and
illuminating buildings like Vidhana Soudha.

 Emerging technologies have the capability to coordinate their


activities globally, nationally and regionally.

 Emerging technologies provide smart services to the people in the


city and provide them with the opportunity to develop their quality
of life.

 It also helps in creating an ecosystem by reducing latency, power


consumption and bandwidth usage
