DODGE Conveyor Components

Three Critical Functions of

Pulley Assemblies

1) Support directional changes in the belt

2) Transmit driving power to the belt

3) Train or guide the belt

INSTALLATION SEQUENCE:
1. Bushing locks to shaft
2. Tightening of bushing hub bolts pulls end disks out and up the
length of bushing
3. This stress is amplified by the distance of travel on bushing
HE Bushings and Hubs
•       Specifically designed for drum and wing pulleys
•       14 degree taper angle to minimize end disc stress
•       Thicker flange
•       Longer length thru bore
•       More mounting bolts on larger sizes
•       Shaft diameters to 12”
•       Even bolt spacing
•       Dodge exclusive

Keyless Locking Devices
• Recommended for shafts over 12”

• Advantages
– No key required
– No axial movement during assembly
– Available to 30” bore

• Disadvantages
– Limited bending capability
– Only one bore per hub size
Welded Design Pulley
Heat Affected Zone

HEAT AFFECTED ZONE

WELD ZONE

Base Metal

The HAZ is the transition area from the weld metal to

the base metal
Most weld failures occur in the Heat Affected Zone
DODGE Mine Duty Extra Drum Pulleys
The problem?
– The hub to end disc weld is the highest stressed area in a
conveyor pulley
– Any weld in a conveyor pulley is a potential failure point
– The hub to end disc weld is the most common failure point
The solution
– Integral hub design eliminates critical hub to
disc weld
– Thick, rigid disc design reduces stress from
belt load
– HE bushing system reduces installation stress

Thicker end disc reduces stress from belt load
HE bushing minimizes installation stress
Mine Duty Extra Wing Pulley

• 5” maximum wing height to greatly reduce wing folding

• ¾” x 2” contact bars
• Follows CEMA standard dimensions
• Up to 5-15/16” diameter shaft
• Rigid end disc design with integral hub
Specialty Pulleys

• Elevator Pulleys – single or double disc design

• Stainless Steel Pulleys – 304 stainless steel rims, hubs,

bushings
• Dead Shaft Pulleys – using piloted flange bearings
• Spiral Drum Pulleys – promote cleaning of the belt

• Magnetic Pulleys – help remove tramp metal off the belt

Pulley Lagging
Lagging :
• Increases belt traction on pulleys
• Minimizes wear due to abrasion and extends pulley life
• Promotes cleaning, reduces build-up on the belt and
extends belt life

Materials:
• SBR (Styrene-Butadiene Rubber) - standard lagging
• D-LAG - premium rubber polymer for maximum abrasion
resistance - 73% greater life than standard SBR
• Holz – replacement lagging
• Neoprene - fire retardant and oil resistant. MSHA approved
• Wing Lag - replaceable urethane slide-on lagging (CEMA only)
Arrowhead Ceramic Lagging
• Arrowhead ceramic lagging
provides the solution when
conventional rubber lagging
fails
• Increases coefficient of friction
to reduce belt slippage
• Increase wear resistance
(longer life)
* Other types of ceramic lagging available
upon request
Shafting
• C1045 T & P Through 5 15/16”
• C1045 Hot rolled 6” and above
• 4140 and Stainless Steel Upon Request
• Precision machined
• Preliminary Drawings With DODGE Pulley
Quotations
Pulley Assemblies
• Maximum return on investment
• Computer aided selection
• Integrated design
• Package: pulley, lagging, shafting, bearings,
couplings, gearing, motors, and v-drives
