OP – AMP

Name : Gauri Sunil Jadhav.

Class : S.Y.Bsc(Computer Science)
Roll No : 6422
Batch : A2
INTRODUCTION TO OP-AMP
• Operational Amplifier or (OP-AMP) is invented by the great scientist George A. Philbrick.

• The OP-AMP is versatile device that can be used to amplify d.c as well as a.c input signals.

• Which performs various mathematical operations, such as addition, subtraction,

multiplication, integration and differentiation etc.
SYMBOL OF OP - AMP
• Negative Terminal (- ve) : Inverting Terminal

• Positive Terminal (+ve) : Non-inverting Terminal

• +vs : Positive power supply

• -vs : Negative power supply

IDEAL OP – AMP PROPERTIES
 An ideal OP-AMP has following properties :

• Infinite input impedance.

• Zero output impedance.
• Infinite voltage gain at low frequency.
• Infinite bandwidth
• Infinite Common mode rejection ratio
• Infinite Power supply rejection ratio.
OP-AMP CHARACTERISTICS AND
BASIC PARAMETERS
• Input Offset Current : I(b1) – I(b2) at V(out) = 0

• Input Bias Current : I(b1) + I(b2) / 2 at V(out) = 0

• Power Supply Rejection Ratio (PSRR): V(in)/ V(supply)

• Common Mode Rejection Ratio (CMRR): |Ad / Ac|

• Slew Rate : Output voltage gain / Time

OP – AMP AS INVERTING
AMPLIFIER
 INVERTING AMPLIFIER :
The signal is connected to the negative of OP – AMP.
The amplified output signal is out of phase with input.
The output and input are exactly out of phase by 180 degree , therefore it is called as
inverting amplifier.
OP – AMP AS NON-INVERTING
AMPLIFIER
 Non – inverting Amplifier :
The signal is connected to the positive of OP – AMP.
The output and input signals are in phase with each other.
The type of amplifier that is designed to amplify the input signal without changing its phase
is called a non-inverting amplifier.
OP – AMP AS UNITY GAIN
FOLLOWER
• One of the simplest amplification of OP – AMP is voltage follower.
• It is unity gain amplifier.
v(o) = v(in)
v(o) / v(in) = 1
• This circuit is useful in isolating a circuit from a connected load.
OP – AMP AS ADDER
• The simple inverting amplifier can be modified by additional signal sources.
• The OP – AMP will amplify the sum of signals given at inverting terminal.

V(out) = -Rf/R1(V1 + V2 + V3)

The output voltage is sum of input voltage

OP – AMP AS SUBTRACTOR
• The Subtractor also called a differential amplifier.
• It uses both the inverting and non-inverting inputs to produce an output signal which is the
difference between the two input voltages V1 and V2 allowing one signal to be subtracted
from another.

V(out) = R3/R1(V1 – V2)

The output voltage is
proportional to difference in
input voltage.
ADVANTAGES AND
DISADVANTAGES OF OP - AMP
• Advantages :
1) It has smaller size.
2) Easy to replace Same OP-AMP can be used for different applications.

• Disadvantages:
1) Most OP – AMP are designed for lower power operation.
2) Another disadvantage is that they cannot be used for high frequencies .
