light marinara or red
Italian sauce that is given
an extra spicy flavor by
adding hot peppers to the
sauce.

Ingredients
● 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
● 1 to 2 teaspoons crushed red pepper
flakes, or to taste 
● 2 medium shallots, finely diced
● 8 cloves garlic, minced
● 1 tablespoon tomato paste
● 2 (28-ounce) cans whole tomatoes
● 1/4 cup coarsely chopped fresh basil
● Salt, to taste
Steps to make it

Melt the butter in a 


large sauté pan over
medium heat. Add the
crushed red pepper
flakes and sauté until
fragrant, about 1
minute.

back of a wooden spoon
. Continue to simmer,
stirring occasionally,
until the sauce has
thickened, about 30
minutes, or to desired
consistency.

Stir in the fresh basil, and


adjust the seasoning with
salt and more pepper
flakes, if desired. Serve
over pasta or as suggested
above.
