According to the Ministry of Education
and Culture (Kemendikbud), the
definition of a personal letter is a letter
written by a person or individual to
another person that is personal.
 Personal letters are letters that are
personal or informal, free, use everyday
language, and contain personal
problems.

Characteristics
 The characteristics of a personal letter are as follows:

- The contents of the letter are personal;

- Do not use letterhead;
- The language used may be informal or colloquial;
- The opening and closing greetings are informal;
- More free writing style.

Personal letters have several purposes, including asking how things are,
informing the situation, giving invitations, and conveying messages.

Elements
 Even though it is private and free, friends still have to pay attention to the following
elements of a personal letter:

- The place and date of making the letter must be clear;

- The purpose of the letter or address must also be written in full;

- Greetings should also be written as a form of courtesy;

- The opening of the letter or opening paragraph is usually a question about how the
recipient of the letter is doing.

- The body of the letter can use everyday language or the language we usually use with
the recipient of the letter:

- The closing greeting at the end of the letter should always be present. Closing
greetings that we can use are free, but must be polite and adjust to the age of the
recipient of the letter.

- Signature and full name must also be written in full, so that the recipient of the letter
knows that we are the one who sent them the letter.

In Jakarta

Hello, Fahmi how are you? We haven't seen each other in a long time, huh.

Since graduating from elementary school and moving to Yogyakarta, we haven't met at all, have we!

I hope we can meet for a while and play with other friends. I have good news. My mom and dad are

going to have a two-week vacation in Jakarta for this year's even semester break.

I will arrive in Jakarta on June 10, 2022. The plan is that we will all stay at a hotel near our former

home and visit our neighbors. Mum and dad allowed me to spend time playing with you and my

friends.

Can't wait to meet other friends. Do you have any interesting ideas to spend the next two weeks on

vacation? Don't forget to reply to my letter, ok?
