Introduction
• The radio broadcasting industry has quite a few major players that are still actively
operating in the industry, some of them are:
- Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM - Entertainment Network India Limited (The Times Group)
- Red FM 93.5 - Sun Group
- 92.7 Big FM – Reliance Broadcast Network Limited (Reliance Group)
- Fever 104 FM- HT Media
- Radio City 91.1 – Music Broadcast Limited
• As of 2020, the market share of Radio Mirchi stood at 33%, and the latest reports of
listenership stated Mirchi topped the list , with a 16% share.
• The global radio broadcasting market size is expected to grow from $125.39 billion in
2021 to $133.55 billion in 2022 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.5%.

• It was established in 1993 under the name “Times FM” which was
then changed to Radio Mirchi.
Strengths:
• Radio Mirchi has garnered a huge listenership percentage, which is
constantly growing due to which it has also developed a strong brand value,
according to several surveys done in 2020, the brand has over 40 million
listeners.
• It was also the first private broadcaster to acquire the most licenses in the
main cities.
Weaknesses:
• Listeners tend to lose patience due to their long commercial breaks on air.
• Long queue to connect a phone call on air
• Not enough manpower in certain departments.

Opportunities:
It has the potential to increase its presence in international markets
They can diversify their music genres which can attract new listeners
Threats:
• The biggest threat that Radio Mirchi has always faced is its fierce competition
from major corporations such as Reliance, (Big FM).
• Radio Mirchi has faced difficulties in retaining RJs for their programs
• Growing innovation among its competitors.

Learning Experience (week 1 and 2)
• I learnt the reporting structure of the organization and understood the chain of
command.
• I was made aware of the unique atmosphere and the distinctive nature of radio
broadcasting companies like Radio Mirchi.
