Introduction
 Maintenance has been defined as the combination
of technical and associated administrative actions
intended to retain an item or system in, or restore
it to, a state in which it can perform its required
function. The key objective of maintenance is to
ensure system function, life, and safety with
minimum cost and expenses.

How do we Maintain a boiler :-


1. To ensure 100% safe to operate the boiler
2. To ensure 100% availability for the production
environment .
3. To ensure the boiler runs at its best efficiency .
4. To ensure the operation to be cost effective
Feed water treatment
 Feed water is treated to remove the soluble and insoluble impurities and also the
dissolved gases to soften the water . For feed water treatment the methods use are as
follows:-
1. Filtration :- Suspended solids are removed by this process. For both row and
treated water. It can remove a large amount of impurities.
2. Lime soda procedure :- It is a precipitation type of purification which also
involves. Chemical treatment to remove hardness of water.
3. Base exchange process :- Mineral like sodium, aluminum, silicate or
commercially produce synthetic reigns like phenol type materials has the ability to
change sodium ions to calcium and magnesium ions when present in water .

 The treatment and conditioning of boiler feed water must satisfy three main
objectives:
 Continuous heat exchange
 Corrosion protection
 Production of high-quality steam
