ABSTRACT
: In this project an isolated dc-dc converter fed dc motor
traction drive system for bidirectional electric vehicular
applications are designed. In conventional dc-dc converter
there is no segregation between input and output. An
isolated dc-dc converter i.e Dual Active Bridge converter
(DABC) having a transformer which segregate input and
output side.
 This isolation can bear anything from a few hundred volts
to numerous thousand volts. At the same time
transformer step-up and step down the voltage level.
Sinusoidal-pulse-width-modulation (SPWM) technique is
cast-off for triggering the switches. An
equivalent proposed simulated model
and verified
is
MATLAB/Simulink. through

INTRODUCTION:
 Growing effectiveness provides the
conveyance
preeminent habitation for reducing carbon dioxide (CO2)
emanation, which is a crucial delinquent in global
warming.
 Thus, detrimental air pollution from squander
emanations can be abbreviate by choosing to drive an
electric vehicle.
 Conventional petrol/diesel vehicles has a huge movable
portions as a compared to battery electric vehicles. EV is
a not necessary to change the liquid fuel or oil.
 Charging and operating an EVs are renewable energy
corresponding solar or wind provide almost emanation
free.
 EV runs on electrically powered engines and hence there
is no need to lubricate the engines.

WORKING:
 Lithium ion battery is connected to isolated DC-DC converter.
In this converter consists of inverter and rectifier.
 In an inverter is a device which converts DC input into an AC
output. Rectifier is a device which converts AC input into DC
output.
 Transformer is used in between inverter and rectifier to
segregate input and output side and also transmute power
from lower side to higher side and vice versa.
 Rectifier output i.e, dc supply is connected to seperately
excited dc motor.

 Electric vehicle running condition, battery is discharging mode
and the vehicle is in free wheel running period then the
regenerative braking is applied.

 Regenerative braking harnesses the energy expended while

slowing a vehicle to help recharge batteries, tapping into the
ability of an electric motor to turn into a generator.

COMPONENTS:
 Separately Excited DC Motor
 Transformer
 Silicon Carbide MOSFET
 Lithium Ion Battery

 SEPARATELY EXCITED DC MOTOR:

A motor whose field circuit is supplied

from a separate constant-voltage power supply.
 TRANSFORMER :
Transformer which segregate input
and output side. This isolation can bear anything
from a few hundred volts to thousand volts.

 SILICON CARBIDE MOSFET:

SiC MOSFET enable higher switching frequencies and

reduce the size of components.
 LITHIUM ION BATTERY:

Battery used to emergency power backupor

uninterruptable power supply.

RESULT:
In this project battery operated an isolated DC-DC converter
i.e. DABC fed DC motor for bidirectional electric vehicular
application is presented. The performance of the system has
been verified by simulation using MATLAB/SIMULINK.

ADVANTAGES:
 Isolated DC-DC converters have high voltage isolation
from several hundreds to thousand volts.
 They have strong noise and interface blocking capability
thus provide the load with the clear DC source.
 Low cost and improve the system efficiency.

DISADVANTAGES:
 Size is large.
 Transformer is used to step up the voltage which creates
more leakage losses due to the inductance in the winding.

DEPT.OF EEE 16
CONCLUSION:
In this project we demonstrated the performance of
bidirectional electric vehicle with isolated DC-DC converter.
The complete model is developed in matlab/Simulink and
with the resultant output it can be concluded that we can
charge the vehicle battery at running condition.

DEPT.OF EEE 17
FUTURE SCOPE:
At running condition the present EV batteries could only
store the energy in a limited range but in future with the
better implementation. We can store more amount of
electricity in the battery to run the vehicles.Efficiency of
electric vehicle will further increase in future.
