General Maintenance Information

• If the engine is operating in ambient temperatures below -18ºC or

above 38ºC, perform maintenance at shorter intervals.
• Shorter intervals are also required if the engine is
operated in a dust environment or if frequent stops are
made.
• Some of these maintenance procedures require special
tools or must be done by qualified personnel.
• Preventative maintenance begins with day to day
awareness of the engine and its system.

1
Daily Maintenance

• Check engine oil and coolant level

• Visual check engine for damage, leaks,
loose or frayed belts and listen for unusual
noises
• Drain water/sediment from fuel tanks
and fuel filter
• Check/clean air cleaner, pre-cleaner and
dust pan
• Clean raw water strainer
• Check engine monitor system

Troubleshooting

Follow the suggestions below for troubleshooting

• Study the problem thoroughly before acting

• Refer to the engine system diagrams
• Do the easiest and most logical things first
• Find and correct the cause of the problem

9
Engine Will Not Crank Or Cranks Slowly

• External or internal conditions affecting engine crankshaft

rotation
• Battery connections broken, loose or corroded
• Incorrect lubricating oil
• Oil temperature low
• Battery rating or temperature too low
• Starting circuit component malfunctioning
• Starting motor is malfunctioning
