What is a Career?
• The word career is often used to refer to a
profession, occupation, trade or vocation. A
career could define what you do for a living
and range from those that require
extensive training and education to those
you can perform with only a high school
diploma and a willingness to learn. A career
could mean working as a doctor, lawyer,
teacher, carpenter, veterinary assistant,
electrician, cashier, teacher or hairstylist.
How to Choose a
Career When You
Can't Decide What to
Do?
Make a List Start by getting organized. What are your hobbies
and interests? Take time to write them all down—
(and and make the list as long as it needs to be.
Distinguish Then, think about which of these interests make

hobby or side project
Determine Your Skills and Work
Style

• When employees stay at a company, it's usually because their

job allows them to do what they do best, according
to a Gallup survey.
• In fact, that factor had an even bigger impact on employee
satisfaction than having an increased income, per the survey.
• With that insight in mind, the question becomes: What do you
do best? To understand this better, consider what makes you
happiest when you have a task to do. For instance:
• Do you prefer working independently, or with a team?
• Do you like doing research or favor hands-on labor?
• Do you enjoy presenting or prefer writing?
Problems with
Choosing a
Career
• As a student, you want to pursue a career path that
aligns with your values, passions and skills, but
that's not always possible.
• Many students are concerned about their future,
too. Technology is moving at a fast pace, and many
jobs will be lost permanently. The
Brookings Institution reports that automation
poses major challenges to middle-class work. Bank
tellers, for instance, are gradually being replaced by
automated systems.
Focus on Your
Priorities

• The challenges students face when choosing a

career can be related to their life goals, personal
values or finances. If, say, you plan to start a
business at some point, it's important to pursue a
career that aligns with your goals.
• For starters, assess your priorities and keep an open
mind. Chances are, you won't get it right the first time
– and that's perfectly fine. What matters most is to
continually improve your skills and create
opportunities rather than wait for them. The average
person goes through about four job changes before
the age of 32, notes Longwood University. Some
people switch careers completely or return to school.

Changing careers: why
taking your time really pays

Whether it’s down to a high-pressure job, a toxic manager

or colleague or boredom, plain and simple, there are many
reasons why someone may choose to leave a job abruptly.
It’s perfectly normal to want a quick exit when you feel
like you don’t belong at work. Professional challenges are
often a sign that it’s time for a change. But they can also
distort your perspective somewhat. Focusing only on the
negatives can increase the desire to quit, which may
ultimately lead you down the wrong career path.
Before you change, test, imagine and plan

Passion VS Money
• How important is money? It’s a question many of us have pondered over at least once in our lives.
• Money is undeniably important in life. You can’t pay your bills and feed your family on just love and
passion, and this a harsh truth. However, there do exist a certain type of people who have no concern for
money and what it can do for them. They find no pleasure in luxuries such as expensive watches, fine
clothes and a big house. Their only aim in life is to follow their passion and create things, even if that
means that they live hand-to-mouth. And then on the other end, there are people who have no passion in
life but to chase money. You will be surprised to know that both kinds of people end up leading happy, full
lives. There are different kinds of people, and thus, there is no single answer to whether you should seek
money or not.
• I am of the belief that happiness derived from money is often fleeting. The day you buy your first Rolex
might be the most memorable one of your life, that thrill, that exhilarating rush of emotions, it would
indeed be an ecstatic moment. But with each Rolex you buy, that elation would fade away, slowly and
slowly, until a day would come when it would stop making any difference. Thus, money is important, even
vital, but only up to a point.
• Pursuing your passion might not shower you with money or
make you a top-of-the-line executive, what it will give you,
however, is satisfaction. The satisfaction of working on
something that is close to your heart, something that kindles
your inner fire, and something you are good at. Finding such a
passion in life, and following through with it, is worth any kind
of difficulties you might face to pursue it. Isn’t a simple life
pursuing your life’s calling, with enough money to keep satisfy
your needs, better than a life with heaps of money, but with no
meaning or purpose?
• There is another element to this. Even if you seek money in
life, it’s better if you don’t chase after it. It is certainly true that
there is money in all fields, you just need to make yourself
worthy enough in order to obtain it. You might ask– how do I
make myself worthy enough? The key words here are passion,
aptitude, dedication and perseverance. Look to integrate these
factors into your life and career, and eventually you will start
earning money, whichever field it may be.
