Assalamualaikum and

Have a good day

Have you ever felt an electric shock
when you touch the handle of mall’s
trolley?
Why does this happen?
THEME 3: ENERGY AND
SUSTAINABILITY OF LIFE
CHAPTER 7: ELECTRICITY AND MAGNETISM
Content standard: 7.1 electricity
 Learning standard:
7.1.1 describe and communicate about energy
7.1.2 explain and communicate about the existence
of electrostatic charges.

caused electrostatic charges and the safety measures that
should be taken when dealing with electrostatic charges
ENERGY

Energy means
the ability to do
work

Electrostatic charges
 Electricshock happens as a result of the transfer
of electric charges between our body and the
trolley’s handle that has static electric charges
 Electric
static charges = electric charges = static
charges = electrostatic charges
 Ways to produce electric static charges:
 Rubbed a balloon with the woolen cloth
 Rubbed a plastic comb with a woolen cloth
 Rubbed a plastic ruler with a woolen cloth
How are the electrostatic charges
between the objects produced?
1. Two different types of objects
are rubbed together

2. Only the electrons are

transferred, the protons do not
move

3. Object that gains electrons,

negatively charged

4. Object that loses electrons,

positively charged
• Electric charges
consist of positive
charges (proton)
and negative
charges (electron)
• Electrostatic forces
is the attraction
and repulsion
between the
electric charges.
Effect of production of electrostatic
charges
Electroscope
device used to detect the
existence of electric charges on an object
Examples of Electrostatic in Our Daily Life

 TV screen becomes dusty quickly.

 The negative charges on the dust are attracted to the
positive charged on the TV screen.
 Use microfibre cloth, a type of anti-electrostatic material
 Thus the TV does not become dusty too quickly
Examples of Electrostatic in Our Daily Life

 The friction between clouds and air causes the clouds to be charged.
 Lightning happened when the force of attraction that exists between
the negative charges in the clouds and the positive charges on the
ground.
 The lightning conductor is installed at buildings to provide a path for
electric charges to flow into the ground.

Solving daily life problems involving
electrostatic
 Aeroplanes can build static charge from (friction) flying
through rain, clouds or winds.
 Static dischargers (needle-like projections on the wings of
the plane)
 is used to discharged the great amount of electric
charges.
 Explain 3 examples of electrostatic
charges in our daily life.
 Explain how to solve daily life
problems involving electrostatic.
