TYPES OF ASSESSMENT

A.Traditional Assessment

-Usually a pencil and paper test, Often a single-occasion

assessment which measure what a learner can do at a particular
time.

-T is an indirect and inauthentic measure of student outcomes.

-This kind of test is speed-based and norm-referenced which

often focuses on memorization and recall.
Types of traditional assessment
Multiple-choice tests- A multiple-choice test usually has dozens of questions or
"items." For each question, the test- taker is supposed to select the "best" choice
among a set of four or five options.

True/false tests- A test consisting of statements that must be marked as either true
or false.

Short answers- They can answer "yes or no" questions or more complicated
queries. Conventionally, the verb in a short answer is in the same tense as the verb
in the question asked.

Essays-Is an analytic or interpretative literary composition usually dealing with its

subject from a limited or personal point of view.
B. Authentic assessment

realistic meaning.

-Activities, question and problems are real world

experiences and criterion –based.
3 Common group broad categories of authenticity
1.Context of assessment-The purpose of this guide, as an exercise in
information gathering and analysis intended to improve understanding of a
geographic target area and/or field of inquiry within a specific timeframe.

• Realistic activity or content- Aims to prepare learners for real and practical
life.
• Task is performance-based- When students participate in performing tasks
or activities that are meaningful and engaging.
  - To help students acquire and apply knowledge,
practice skills, and develop independent and collaborative work habits.

• Task is cognitively complex- Tasks are often viewed as long-term projects

that require hours of research or experimentation and multiple class days to
complete.

2.The role of student- As learners, students play a crucial and active role in
education. They involve and interact with students and teachers, participate in
classroom discussions, and act in a receptive manner.
• A defense of the answer or product is required

• Assessment is formative-  To monitor student learning to provide ongoing

feedback that can be used by instructors to improve their teaching and by
students to improve their learning.

• Students collaborate with each other or with teacher

3. The scoring- Guides assign points to different levels of student performance.

Teachers use them when a student response can earn some of the total possible
points, typically for constructed-response items and performance tasks.
• Scoring criteria are known or student-developed.

• Multiple indicators or portfolios are used for scoring.

• Performance expectation is mastery.
