significant Export Industry.
3. These plans are threatened by the Red Palm Weevil
Infestation.
4. No solution has been found to control or stop the Red Palm
Weevil.
5. The Nanotechnology Palm Tree Weevil Killer is
enviornmentally friendly and non-toxic, approved for use by
the U.S.A. and Bahrain.
6. An Exclusive Agency distributing the product is available,
and will earn the Agent millions of Riyals per year.

• Saudi Arabia is one of the world leaders in date production,

with more than 31 million palm trees and a production
volume of more than 1.5 million tons of different date
varieties (Arab News, 7 April 2022).
• Dates are not only eaten as a sweet delicacy; they are used
as animal fodder, and to make products for the medical,
cosmetic and building materials industries.
• The National Center for Palms and Dates has officially
launched the “Saudidates” platform, an innovative,
convenient and efficient business-to-business electronic
market where buyers across the globe can buy dates in bulk
from sellers in the Kingdom.

• The value of Saudi Arabia’s date exports rose by 7.1
percent in 2020 to SR927 million ($247 million), while
shipments by volume in the period increased by 17
percent to 215,000 tons.
• As one of the world’s largest date producers, the
Kingdom is home to more than 33 million palm trees
and 157 processing facilities.
• With support from the National Center for Palms and
Dates, it has grown to become the world’s largest
exporter of the fruit, selling to 107 international
destinations.

Palm Weevil
The date palm is under severe
threat and with it the
livelihoods of an estimated 50
million farmers in the region.
The cause of this is the Red
Palm Weevil, the most
dangerous and destructive pest
of palm trees worldwide,
capable of feeding on the trees’
growing tissue from the inside.
This insect originated in South
East Asia and has spread rapidly
through the Near East and
North Africa where an
estimated 90 percent of the
world’s date palms are grown.

 Saudi Arabia - Ban on Palm Tree Planting to stop
the Red Palm Weevil
(Saudi Gazette - 21 February 2021
• Saudi Arabian authorities have imposed a permanent ban on planting of palm trees
along roads as well as in parks and gardens across the Kingdom.
• This is part of the measures to prevent the spread of the red palm weevil and in line
with the recommendation of the permanent committee concerned with the
prevention of the red palm weevil in the Kingdom.
• In a circular sent to emirs of all the 13 provinces of the Kingdom last month, the
committee recommended a halt to the plantation of date palm trees as part of
measures to prevent the spread of the red palm weevil as well as to maintain the
level of low prevalence rates among the palm trees in the Kingdom.
• It has been clarified in the circular that the ban will be applicable only to the
plantation of date palm trees in future projects, without removing the already
planted ones.

• Part 2 of the Investor Proposal will address the problem and treatment to eliminate
the Red Palm Weevil from the Saudi Palm Trees.
