ENVIRONMENTAL EMERGENCIES

INTRODUCTION
WHAT IS AN ENVIROMENTAL
EMERGENCY?

 It’s a sudden disasters or accidents resulting from


natural, technological or human-induced factors, or a
combination of these, that causes or threatens to cause
severe environmental damage as well as loss of
human lives and property.

HURRICANE
 A hurricane is a type of storm called a tropical
cyclone, which forms over tropical or
subtropical waters.
EARTHQUAKE
 It’s a sudden and violent shaking of the
ground, sometimes causing great destruction,
as a result of movements within the earth's
crust or volcanic action.
TSUNAMI
 It’s a long high sea wave caused by an
earthquake, submarine landslide, or other
disturbance.
FLOOD
 It’s a common natural disaster when water
inundates land that is normally dry.
FOREST FIRE
 It’s an uncontrolled fire occurring in nature
resulting from natural or human factors.
TOXIC-WASTE DUMPING
 It’s an uncontrolled fire occurring in nature
resulting from natural or human factors.
OIL SPILL
 It’s the release of a liquid petroleum
hydrocarbon into the environment, especially
marine areas, due to human activity, and is a
form of pollution.
ICE STORM
 It’s a heavy fall of snow, especially with a high
wind and extreme temperatures.
INFLUENZA
 It’s an infectious disease caused by virus, the
most common symptoms are chills, fever, sore
throat, muscle pains and coughing.
