ABSTRACT
• There has been a recent push to replace the fossil fuels with biomass.
• The replacement of this non-renewable resources with biological waste
would lower the overall pollution of the world.
• The waste biomass like dry leaves, sawdust, rice husk, etc., are
gathered and compressed into the briquettes.
• It is High Time to take initiative to turn the biomass into a source of
energy.
• Hence here we take responsibility in converting agricultural and
forestry waste into the useful biomass briquettes.
• Any Waste or any proportion can be used but with proper binding
agent, and some raw materials do not require any binding agent if we
use high pressure compression
INTRODUCTION
 Briquetting machine is an energy saving machine and
renewable source of energy.
 The Waste from the wood called as sawdust, crop straw and other
biomass raw materials to be pressurised to make a briquette.
 It is known as binder less Technology.
 Briquettes are known as ‘white coal’ because it produce less
pollutants when burned.
 After Biomass briquetting process energy efficient briquettes are
available to meet the current demand of fuel.
NEED OF THIS BRIQUETTING MACHINE
• In the present state of art, no such machine is available in the
market that makes the briquettes from the dry leaves.

• The machines which are available in the market makes briquettes

either form agriculture waste or from wood dust and these
machines are too costly and bulky which are not affordable by
small scale manufacturers and farmers.

• The dry leaves collected are burned causing more pollution to the
environment.

• Keeping this point in view, study was undertaken to develop the

machine which is able to shred dry leaves, agricultural wastes and
saw dust into small granules and make briquettes from them.

AVAILABILITY OF RAW MATERIAL

 Raw material necessary for production briquette plant is

effortlessly obtainable in abundance in almost all the agricultural
nations.
 In India the important raw materials used Amla Seed, Almonds,
Babool, Bagasse, Bamboo dust briquette, Coffee husk, Castor
seed shell, Cashew Shell, Coir pith, cotton, shells, Rice Husk,
Paddy Straw, Saw Dust, Soybean husk, jute waste, Tobacco
waste, Ground nut Shell, Cotton Stalks or chips, Mustard Stalk,
etc.

BRIQUETTING
 Briquetting is a process of compacting loose materials into solid material.
 The Briquettes are eco-friendly and renewable energy sources.
 Briquetting is one of the compaction methods for densification of waste
materials and converts them into the something useful.
 Some of the raw materials used in the briquetting consist of coal,
charcoal, wood, saw dust, bagasse, paper, stalks, etc
 They are compressed in particular briquette press machine to generate a
uniform shaped briquette that can be used to ignite a fire and general
energy.
 The briquettes arranged to come in different shape and size depending on
the application for which it is to be used.

WORKING PROCESS
 Briquetting works with both binder and non-binder agent as it
needs the binding effect to get enough strength for the finished
briquette.
 The type of the briquetting differ with the power source.
 Types of Briquette Machines are :
Screw Type.
Hydraulic Type.
Piston or Mechanical Type.
Roller Type.
 Here we are using the piston type briquetting machine, the piston type
uses the rotary power of the mechanical device or the thrust of the
hydraulic cylinder to reciprocate the piston.
 The Piston (Plunger) drives the ram to reciprocate in the forming sleeve
to generate a pressing force to form the material into briquette.
 A big pressure will be generated from the movement of the crank and
the punch.
 It raises the temperature of the raw material, as the raw material moves,
it fractionates inside, another kind of heat is generated through the
friction of the die and the material.
 With the action of these two kinds of heat, material arises its own
temperature to a high level and melt the lignin.
 Particle materials then bind them together and become strong enough.
 Due to the piston movement from the motor source, it reciprocates at
high speed, and causes to motion.
 The Hopper is filled with dust, that is stored and efficiently the dust will
be settled at one end of the cylinder.
 When the Piston effort is there the dust is compressed in the die, which
is arranged at the machine.
 The compressed material is highly heated internally when the piston
hits in the cylinder, so it tends to tight pack of molecules of the dust, the
dust which has been compressed is known as briquette.
WORKING OF WOOD SHREDDER
• The wood shredder machine is usually fitted with multiple
cutting blades.
• These blades are attached to a motor which rotates at a very
high speeds.
• The wood or agricultural waste when fed into the machine
instantly turns into small granules which is then fed into the
hopper of the briquetting machine.
WORKING MODEL OUTLINE
DIFFERENT BRIQUETTE TYPES

 Wood Briquettes : These are mostly produced by industries of

the primary processing of wood, mainly sawdust or chips. These
elements are occasionally refined before being compressed.
 Argo – fuel briquettes : These are produced from wood chips
from hedges, very short rotation coppices, or herbaceous biomass
( e.g. miscanthus )
 No chemical additive is used ( natural additives example as
starch might be used in limited quantity ); the cohesion is made
sure by the natural binders of the biomass
