TRAGIC FLAW
DEFINITION

 The character defect that causes the downfall of the


protagonist of a tragedy. ( harmartia )
HOW WE WENT ABOUT ANSWERING THE
QUESTION…
 We learned what a tragic flaw is and then considered how it
applies to each character. These tragic flaws are a big part of
plot, often leading to a conflict or crisis.
LENNIE

 Touching soft things


 “I like to pet nice things.” (P90)
GEORGE

 Taking care of Lennie


 “I could get along so easy and so nice if I didn ’t have you on
my tail.” (P7)
CURLEY

 He is hot headed.
 “… he’s alla time picking scraps with big guys. Kind of like
he’s mad at ‘em because he ain’t a big guy.” (P26)
CURLEY’S WIFE

 Marrying Curley and Craving attention.


 “I don’t like Curley. He ain’t a nice fella.”
 “Coulda been in the movies, an’ had nice clothes- all them
nice clothes like they wear. An I coulda sat in them big hotels,
an’ have pitchers took of me.
CANDY

 Let someone else shoot his dog.


 “I oughtta shot that dog myself George, I shouldn ’t have let no
stranger shoot my dog.”(P61)
