IDIOM?
An idiom is a commonly used expression whose meaning does
not relate to the literal meaning of its words.

“All ears”
If someone says that they are all ears, they mean that they
are ready and eager to listen.
➔ I was all ears when my grandfather told me about his crazy youth.
➔ A: I have to tell you something.
B: Let me finish this task and then I’ll be all ears.
➔ The majority of the students were all ears during the speech.
“Head over heels”
To be deeply in love

➔ Rigsby is head over heels for Van Pelt.


➔ My sister is head over heels for her new boyfriend.
“Learn (sth) by heart”
To memorize

➔ I learned the multiplication tables by heart in Kumon.


➔ Learn this new idioms by heart.
“On the tip of my tongue”
Something about to be said if you can remember it.

➔ I know her, her name is on the tip of my tongue, but it won’t come to me.
➔ I have the answer on the tip of my tongue.
“Hit the bull’s eye”
1. Literally to hit the circle in the center of a target.
2. To have the desired effect.
➔ Your idea really hit the bull’s eye.
➔ She knows how to hit the bull’s eye.

“The rest is history”
When telling a story , we say the rest is history to mean that the rest of the
story is already well known and doesn’t need to be repeated.

➔ We met while we were working and, well, the rest is history.


➔ He joined his father's hamburguer company, and the rest is history.
“Once upon a time”
In everyday speech, it is used to talk about a time long ago or used as the
opening line of a fairy tale.

➔ Once upon a time, it was safe to walk around this town at night.
➔ Once upon a time, there was a beautiful princess named Snow White.
➔ Once upon a time he was a famous actor.
“Ship has sailed”
When an opportunity has passed by and it’s too late to do anything about it, we say the
ship has sailed.

➔ I always dreamed of becoming a professional football player but I’m too old now; that ship
has sailed.
“Ring a bell”
If something rings a bell, it reminds you of something from the past that you can’t quite
remember clearly.

➔ Her name rings a bell but I can’t remember how I know her.
“A thing of the past”
If something is a thing of the past, it doesn’t happen or exist any more.

➔ Dial-up modems are a thing of the past.
