ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
It is great pleasure for us to undertake this project.
We feel highly overwhelmed for doing the project
entitled “WORK STUDY AND METHOD STUDY”.
We wish to acknowledge our guide Prof P.M. Rao
Sir, a faculty member of Swayam Sidhhi College of
Management and Research, without whom this project
would not have been possible.
DEFINATION OF WORK STUDY
• Work study is a combination
of two groups of techniques,
method study and work
measurement, which are
used to examine people's
work and indicate the factors
which affect efficiency.
MEANING OF WORK STUDY
• Work study is the investigation, by means of a
consistent system of the work done in an organization
in order to attain the best utilization of resources i.e.
Materials, Machines, Men and Money. All the
technologies and management systems are related with
productivity.
PROCEDURE FOR WORK STUDY
• Select the job or process to be studied.
• Record everything that happens during observation.
• Examine the recorded facts.
• Develop the most economic methods.
• Measure the amount of work involved in the method used.
• Define the new method.
• Install the new method and time as agreed standard practice.
• Maintain the new standard practice by proper control over it.
ADVANTAGES OF WORK STUDY:

• More production with less effort so goods/products

are available at cheaper rates.

• Better equipment utilization shall lead to marked

increase in the total production without addition of
new resources, thus productivity may improve.

METHOD STUDY WORK MEASUREMENT

METHOD STUDY
Method study is the
systematic recording and
critical examination of
existing and proposed ways
of doing work in order to
develop and apply easier and
more effective methods and
to reduce costs.
OBJECTIVES OF METHOD STUDY

• Improved layout and design of workplace.

• Improved and efficient work procedures.
• Effective utilization of men, machines and materials.
• Improved design or specification of the final product.
• To examine those facts critically.
WORK MEASUREMENT

• Work measurement establishes the time a qualified

worker needs to carry out a specified job at a
defined level of performance.
• It helps in investigating, reducing and eliminating
unnecessary time, during useful work is not being
performed.
OBJECTIVES OF WORK MEASUREMENT

• To compare the times of performance by alternative

methods.
• To enable realistic schedule of work to be prepared.
• To arrive at a realistic and fair incentive scheme.
• To analyse the activities for doing a job with the view to
reduce or eliminate unnecessary jobs.
• To minimise the human effort.
STEPS INVOLVED IN WORK MEASUREMENT

• Divide jobs into elements.

• Observe and record each element, any of the work
measurement.
• Set up unit time values, by extending observed time
into normal time for each unit.
• Evaluate relaxation allowance and add the same to the
normal time, for each element.

• Ascertain the frequency of occurrence of each element, then

multiply the work content to it. After that total the times to
reach the work content of the job.

• Add contingency allowance, wherever required, to get the

standard time for performing the job.
