What is “The Cloud”?

 What is Data?

- Data is information that is collected from a device.

- Your search history, photos, and text messages are all forms of data amongst countless other
examples.
- Data is collected to use for analysis and to perform certain actions. For example, your search
history and search behaviour, all forms of data, are used to choose what ads you watch and what
videos are recommended to you.
- Data is not imaginary; it must be stored somewhere. The question is, where?
 Data Stored on the Device

- System and OS files are stored locally in the device (most cases)
- Photos in their raw, original file are stored in the device
- Apps such as the Map that do not require internet connection are also stored
in the device itself
- The code for all apps, even those that use the cloud, and the skeletons of
them are stored in the device
- What about other types of data that are used in web based apps?
- This data is simply too much to store locally on a device, so where does it
go? Also, if it is only stored locally, how will other people see?
