 COURSE TITLE : INTRODUCTION TO PSYCHOLOGY
 COURSE CREDIT : 3 UNITS
 PRE-REQUISITE : NONE
 COURSE DESCRIPTION: A broad coverage of the
conceptual and empirical foundations of psychology in its
main fields. The discussion of the theories, concepts, and
findings focuses on complex human behavior: how and why
we think, feel and behave the way we do, how we act and
interact with others, and why and how we become the
unique individuals that we are.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
At the end of the semester, you should be able to:

1. Be more aware of a variety of major issues and theories in


psychology.
2. Recognize the key role that psychology plays in our everyday
lives.
3. Have better insight into the behavior of individuals with whom
they have frequent contact.
4. Have gained some understanding of the scientific method and how
it applies to psychological research.
5. Have gained a more accurate and comprehensive understanding of
human behavior and mental life in general.

 October 12 – 1st Virtual Session/Orientation


 October 26 – 2nd Virtual Session
 November 9 – 3rd Virtual Session
 November 16 – Quiz 1
 November 23 – 4th Virtual Session
 December 7 – 5th Virtual Session
 January 4 – 6th Virtual Session
 January 18 – Quiz 2
 February 1 – Final Examination
 We will have a minimum of six (6) virtual
sessions (at least one (1) video conference/lecture
per month). The limit is set in consideration of
the internet/mobile data cost that will be incurred
by the students and faculty members.
 The schedule may be subject to change. Students
will be notified about changes in schedule via the
chosen platform/s (e.g. Facebook group chat, MS
Teams, etc.)
VIRTUAL CLASSROOM RULES

 Choose a quiet space, free from distractions, to set


yourself up for class. Turn off cell phones, TVs, etc. Exit
other applications on your computer prior to entering the
classroom.
 Come to class promptly.

 Dress appropriately. Remember this is still a classroom


setting.
 Use your full name when you sign into the classroom.

 When you enter the classroom, make sure to enable both


audio and video. You can click “Start Video” and “Join
Audio” in the bottom menu. For audio connection, you can
choose to connect via the computer or dial-in on your
phone.
 Mute your microphone during the lesson to avoid
disturbing the class with any background noise.
 Be respectful. 

 Participate. When you have a question or comment, use the


“Raise your Hand” button that can be found in the window
that pops up when you click on Participants in the bottom
menu. Wait to be acknowledged by the teacher before
unmuting yourself to speak. You can also use the keyboard
shortcut Option+Y on a Mac or Alt+Y on a PC to raise your
hand.
 Use the chat responsibly. It is meant to facilitate conversation
around the lesson topic, not for sideline discussions.
 When your class is over, leave the classroom by closing the
window.
TAKE NOTE OF THESE IMPORTANT MATTERS:

 Announcements, Lessons, Quizzes, and Major Exams


will be posted/uploaded in MS Teams.
 We will have our Virtual Sessions via Zoom/Google
Meet.
(Please refer to the tentative schedule of virtual
sessions)
 Students are encouraged to join every session (to
maximize learning) but are not required.
COURSE GRADING SYSTEM

MIDTERM/FINAL GRADE :
Class Standing (Activities/Assignments/Reflective
Essays, e-Portfolio/Case Analysis/Quiz)= 70%

Major Exam (Final Exam) = 30%

 FINAL GRADE: (Class Standing+ Final Exam)
