Social Science
There appear to be some natural
relationships between social science
disciplines:
 Anthropology and sociology
 Political science and sociology
 Business and economics
 Economics and political science
 History and religion
Other Social Science
Other disciplines which are often
included within the social sciences

 Demography
 History
 Human geography
 Linguistics
 Social statistics
LITERATURE MATERIALS

Literature can be divided into three (3) main categories:

1. PRIMARY

2. SECONDARY

3. TERTIARY
LITERATURE MATERIALS: PRIMARY

 Original information
 Has not been filtered through:
i. interpretation
ii. condensation
iii. evaluation

 Refer to a person who provides information or an


object
 Example :
Computer programs, Conference paper and
proceedings, Interviews, Patent, Reports, etc.
LITERATURE MATERIALS:
SECONDARY

 Information about primary or original information

 Has been modified, selected, or rearranged for a


specific purpose or an audience

 Example:
Abstracts, Almanacs, Current Awareness Information,
Dictionaries, Directories, Encyclopedia, Handbooks,
Bibliographies, Indexes, SDI etc…
LITERATURE MATERIALS: TERTIARY

 Provides information that we receive third hand

 Anything that you found out from somebody who found

it from somebody else.

 Examples:
Bibliography of bibliographies, Directory of
directories, and Literature guide.
