Rice Husk Ash and

Metkaolin
Course Objectives

• To know what are admixtures materials used in

concrete.

• To study the performance of concrete using rice

husk ash and metkaolin.
Rice husk ash

• Rice husk ash (RHA) is a highly reactive

pozzolan obtained when rice husks are
calcinated below the crystallization
temperature at 780 °C.

• RHA-based concrete has high strength and

high durability performance.
Definition of HPC
• High-performance concrete (HPC)
is concrete that has been designed to be more
durable and, if necessary, stronger than
conventional concrete.

• High-strength concrete is defined as having a

specified compressive strength of 8000 psi (55
MPa) or greater.
Composition of Rice Husk Ash
Rice husk ash consists of the following:
•Cellulose (C5H10O5)
•Lignin (C7H10O3)
•Hemicellulose
•SiO2
•Holocellulose

What students have learnt from
the topic
 The students have learned how to make the
concrete of uniform strength to resist weathering
action and chemical attacks maintaining the
desired engineering properties.

 The students will be able to maintain the quality

of structure at site to increase its life span.
Assignment :-

 What are the factors responsible for the variability of

concrete mix.
