 Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative

disease that usually starts slowly and
progressively worsens.

DIAGNOSED
 Ask the person experiencing symptoms
 Administer a psychiatric evaluation
 Conduct tests of memory,
 Order blood, urine, and other
 Perform brain scans,

 TREATMENT
 Treating medical conditions
 Participating in stimulating activities
 Providing memory aids and memory triggers
 Encouraging social interaction
 Contacting support groups
 Not smoking

1. Medications such as sleeping tablets

2. A group of medications called cholinesterase
inhibitors improve mental function

 AD is the most common of many causes of dementia
 its prevalence is increasing worldwide
 Disease pathology starts years before noticeable symptoms.
