IRRIGATION
 Irrigation is the application of controlled amounts of water to plants at needed
intervals. Irrigation helps to grow agricultural crops, maintain landscapes ,and
revegetate disturbed soils in dry areas and during periods of less than average
rainfall.
TYPES OF IRRIGATION METHODS

There are mainly four types of irrigation methods:

 SURFACE IRRIGATION
 SUB SURFACE IRRIGATION
 SPRINKLER IRRIGATION
 DRIP IRRIGATION
SURFACE IRRIGATION
Surface irrigation is where water is applied and distributed over the soil surface by
gravity. It is often reffered to as flood irrigation. Its water distribution is uncontrolled.
SUB SURFACE IRRIGATION
 Subsurface irrigation is defined as the uniform application of small quantities of
water at frequent intervals below the soil surface from discrete emission points or
line sources.
SPRINKLER IRRIGATION
It is a method of applying irrigation water which is similar to natura rainfall. Water is
distributed through a system of pipes usually by pumping.
DRIP IRRIGATION
 It is a type of micro-irrigation system that has potential to save water and nutrients
by allowing water to drip slowly to roots of plants, either from above the oil
surface or buried below the surface.
