This document describes a bio robotics system called DDX/Daphine that is used to detect diseases. It analyzes parameters like response time, tremor, speed and pressure using a joystick and button interface. The system uses fuzzy logic to analyze results and detect diseases like Parkinson's, Alzheimer's and motor neuron diseases. It has improved over time with reduced size, better hardware/software and can be used for both medical and sports applications. The system allows quantitative measurement of neuromotor health conditions.

INTRODUCTION • To measure the neuro-psychomotor conditions of an individual. • It is necessary to obtain a set of parameters such as reaction time, speed, strength and tremor. • The set of parameters is useful not only to diagnose neuro- motor pathologies, but also access general everyday health or to monitor sports performance. • Autonomous testing is important. • The DDX system has been designed with reference to the biomechanical characteristics of the human finger. THE DDX SYSTEM (DISEASE DETECTOR) WHAT IS DDX SYSTEM? • Disease Detector(DDX), portable equipment with detection of response time and psychophysical conditions. • It is a simple joystick with a few buttons, an LCD display and a simple interface for remote communication of diagnosis. • The external effects require 1) The response to sounds, 2) A soft touch of a button 3) By pronouncing a word, 4) The touch of the finger in front of a virtual reality drawing of the finger itself. • Fuzzy Logic is exploited in order to obtain an intelligent and reliable detector. DDX SYSTEM • It is used for a soft touch. The person looks at the screen and reads words of warning and of start.
• The person must press softly the button
with index finger.
• The tremor before and during the
pressure on the button is measured by a switch which detects oscillations of the hand. SOFTWARE DIAGRAM OF DDX SYSTEM • BUTTON PUSH Performed by placing forefinger on button and pushing it down slowly. Followed by Visual-Sound Signal 1) Fast Protocol 2) Virtual Protocol • VOCAL ARTICULATION 1) Fast reading: fore period and duration to articulate word are measured. 2) Delayed reading. • Result analysis and Presentation with Fuzzy Logic. TECHNICAL ARCHITECTURE OF THE WORKING SYSTEM DDX • Parameters are acquired from the button. • Tremor sensor- measures vibrations of the wrist of the hand. • Processor ->Buzzer -> timer starts- > Sampling - >Sends another impulse to the buzzer - >Variable tj ->Patient will press the push button ->Variable ti, Variable tf -> The speed of patient motion can be calculated from these times. • Pressure is calculated using a simple circuit. DISEASES DETECTED USING BIOROBOTICS 1) MOTOR NEURON DISEASES MNDs are a group of progressive neurological disorders that destroy motor neurons, the cells that control essential voluntary muscle activity such as Speaking, Walking, Breathing, and Swallowing. 2) ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE Causes problems with Memory, Thinking and Behavior. In advanced stages of the disease, complications from severe loss of brain function. 3) PARKINSON’S DISEASE • Parkinson’s disease is a Progressive, Degenerative neurological movement disorder. It occurs when the nerve cells in the brain that make dopamine are slowly destroyed. DIAGRAM OF BIOROBOTICS SYSTEM A NEW DEVICE - DAPHNE A NEW DEVICE – DAPHNE The system, called DAPHINE is a bio robotic device. It allows the diagnosis if neuro psycho – physical condition, whether the person is affected by nervous system pathologies as Parkinson’s disease. The system DAPHINE is the result of research on biomechanics of the finger of the human hand, through the evolution and realization of previous bio robotic systems. The EMG recording during an experiment, performed both in conditions of direct visual contact with the remote environment and utilizing different interfaces, allows an investigation of neuro muscular activity. Output is formed by muscular performances and from signs of acquisition of motor units. The considered parameters include signs of psychomotor processes. IMPROVEMENT : A NEW MODEL WITH CAD DESIGN & RAPID PROTOTYPING. • Reduced dimension and a hardware & user- friendly software. • The system can be used not only in medical field, but also in the daily health and sport field. • Parameters considered : Reaction time, Speed, Tremor, Force and Ability of coordination and synchronization. • Test Protocol • Result Analysis: IPF CHALLENGES FACED BY BIOROBOTICS 1) The development of truly biomimetic robots requires that soft materials be incorporated into the mechanical design. Solution - One approach to this challenge is to identify how soft animals control their movements and then apply the found principles in robotic applications. 2) These area have remained largely unchanged for 30 years – A battery to match metabolic conversion, muscle-like actuators, self-healing material, autonomy in any environment, etc. APPLICATIONS • Experimental tests done on subject affected from Parkinson’s. • Experimental tests done on subjects belonging to the sports field. • Tests in the professional field: Ferrari race. CONCLUSION • The system is an intelligent bio robotic system based on soft computing techniques and, as such, its efficiency maybe improved via extended function calibration. • Daphne device allows to obtain a quantitative and exact measure of neuromotor health condition and the psychological condition. • The application of the diagnosis of the Parkinson’s disease was the first result of this system.
