ADVANCED TECHNIQUES

IN MANUFACTURING
PROCESS
INTRODUCTION
● Manufacturing process
● Concepts in manufacturing process
● Casting
● Moulding
● Forming and Forging
● Machining
● Joining
● Rapid manufacturing
CASTING
PRINCIPLE OF CASTING

Liquid material poured into mould is allowed to soldify

MOLDING

PRINCIPLE OF MOLDING

Shaping pliable rawmaterial using rigid frame or model

FORMING AND FORGING
PRINCIPLE

Process of working with metal to create individual parts, assemblies

or large structures

SKILLS, TOOLS REQUIRED

MACHINING
PRINCIPLE

Collection of material working process utilising power driven

machine tools
JOINING
PRINCIPLE

Assembling of parts metal or any other substances

MANPOWER, SKILLS, NEW TECHNIQUES

RAPID MANUFACTURING
PRINCIPLE

Delivered new customized products more quickly than before to meet

customer demands
TREND IN MANUFACTURING[FMS]

FLEXIBLE MQNUFACTURING SYSTEM

FLEXIBILITY

Change the production volume and change the design of certain

product being manufactured
WHAT IS FMS

● FMS is a manufacturing processin which there is some flexibility that

allows the system to react in case of changes whether predicted or
unpredicted
FLEXIBLE MANUFACTURING SYSTEM
NEED TO APPLY:

Conventional method by lathe machine, tool selecting etc..

By FMS automatic work can be done

TWO CATEGORY

Machine flexibility :covers the system’s ability to be changed to

produce new products

Routine flexibility :ability to use multiple machines to perform the

same operation on a part as well as the system’s ability to absorb large
scale change such as in volume, capability etc...
ADVANTAGES
● Reduced manufacturing time
● Lower cost per unit product
● Minimizes labour requirements
● Greater machine efficiency
● Improved quality
● Adaptive to CAD/CAM operations
● Improved system reliability

DISADVANTAGES
● Cost to implement
● Substantial pre-planning required
INDUSTRIAL FMS

● FMS consists of robots, computer controlled machines, numerical

controlled machines, instrumentation devices, sensors, computers and
inspection machines
● Promises a variety of benefits ranging from high utilization to high
volume of productivity
● The FMS data traffic consists of large files and short messages and
mostly come from nodes, devices and instruments. The message size
ranges brtween a few bytes to several hundred of bytes
CONCLUSION
CONVENTIONAL
NEW TRENDS TRENDS
● Rapid manufacturing is not pissible
● Rapid manufacturation ● Cost of production is greater
● Cost of manufacture reduces ● More workers is required
● Workers get reduced ● Environment is not considered
● Enviornment is considered ● Attractive products are not obtained
● Attractive products are obtained compared to new trends
● Pre planning is necessary ● Preplanning is not considered
compared to new trends
