Some questions on direction:
1. What is the compass direction of the settlement Warka from the settlement Nimbora?
Ans: The settlement Warka is located to the north of the settlement Nimbora.
2. Name any two settlements that are in the north western part of the map.
Ans: Selwara and Sapol.
3. What is the direction of flow of water in Sipu Nadi?
Note: To answer this question, one must search for an arrow in the riverbed. The arrow found in the riverbed indicates
the direction of flow of water in the river. If the arrow is not found in the riverbed then we must determine the general
slope of land by evaluating different types of heights. For example, spot height, triangulated height, etc. The direction
towards which these heights are decreasing would be the direction in which river is flowing.

Ans: The Sipu River is flowing from northeast to southwest because there is an arrow in the riverbed which is pointed
towards southwest.

4. On which bank of Sipu Nadi the settlement Lanol is located?
Note: To answer this question one must find out the banks of river. After understanding the flow of water in the
riverbed we have to hold the map in such a way that the river is flowing away from us. So, our right-hand side bank is
right bank and one on the left-hand side is the left bank. Refer the diagram in the previous page, the boy found in the
riverbed is facing the direction of flow of water. His right-hand side riverbank is right bank and one on the left-hand
side is left bank.
Ans: The settlement Lanol is located on the left bank of Sipu Nadi.

such as railways, metalled roads, cart track, foot path and pack track.
To identify the modes of transport used on the topographical map,
one has look for the following tracks shown on the given
topographical map.
While answering to the question asked about modes of transport one
must name the tracks shown on the given topographical map. For
examples cart track, metalled road, etc. not car, bus, bullock cart, etc.
