• A five-stringed instrument
played with a pick. It is a pear-
shape lute that is a traditional

• SAENG-HWANG – It is a free reed
mouth organ derived from the Chinese
sheng, though its tuning is different. It is
constructed from 17 bamboo pipes,
each with a metal free reed, mounted
vertically in a windchest. It is played like
a harmonica.

• It has a conical wooden body
made from yuja, daechu, or
yellow mulberry wood, with a
metal mouthpiece and cup-
shaped metal bell.
• A double reed pipe; this
instrument is in high pitch.
HYANG-PIRI
• It is the longest and most common
out of all piris. Because of its loud
and nasal tone, it usually plays the
main melody in an ensemble.
• It also known as in Korean music
culture because it carries the main
melody in music ensembles.

court and folk pieces.
PUK (BUK)
• the buk is a traditional Korean drum.
While the term buk is a native Korean
word used as a generic term meaning
"drum", it is most often used to refer
to a shallow barrel-shaped drum, with
a round wooden body that is covered
on both ends with animal skin.
• Known to be the one of the oldest Korean
Instruments.
BAK
• Bak is a wooden clapper used in
Korean court and ritual music. The
person playing the bak is called
jipbak, serving as the conductor or
musical supervisor for the group. The
bak creates the clapping sound if
clapped to indicate when the music
starts.
• It made from 6 pieces of birch wood.
