Objectives

 Find the Thevenin’s equivalent circuit.

 Study maximum Power transfer theorem and it’s application in DC
circuit analysis.

Theory

Thevenin’s Theorem Procedure:

 Remove that portion of the network where the Thevenin’s equivalent circuit is found.
 Mark the terminals of the remaining two-terminal network.
 Calculate RTH by first setting all sources to zero (voltage sources are replaced by short circuits and current
sources by open circuits) and then finding the resultant resistance between the two marked terminals.
 Calculate ETH by first returning all sources to their original position and finding the open-circuit voltage
between the marked terminals.
 Draw the Thevenin’s equivalent circuit with the portion of the circuit previously removed replaced between
the terminals of the equivalent circuit.

Result Analysis and Significance

 Maximum power transfer occur when RL= Rth.

 If RL is lower or higher than Rth then the power delivered to load is less than maximum.
 Calculated values and simulated values are same.
 There is errors between calculated values and measured values.

Conclusion

As per the results and analysis, the objective of this experiment was achieved. Maximum power
transfer theorem is verified as when the load resistance is equal to internal resistance the
maximum power is dissipated. Hence the theorem is proved.
