Meaning of Plumbing

Plumbing is the art and technique of installing pipes, fixtures, and


other apparatuses in buildings for bringing in the supply of liquids,
substances and/or ingredients and removing waste such as water,
liquid and other carried-wastes hazardous to health. It can also be
defined as the system of piping, installation of fixtures as well as
apparatuses for water distribution and waste disposal within a
building.
Careers in Plumbing

Apprentice Plumber – a beginner at the trade who usually serves for


3 to 5 years as helper to a journeyman.

Journeyman Plumber – has served his apprenticeship and is


competent to perform the tasks of installing and repairing plumbing
system also called as plumbing foreman.

Pipe Fitter – a person who is competent to perform laying and


fitting huge pipes.
Careers in Plumbing

Plumbing Teacher / Trainer - is a Licensed Professional Teacher


(LPT) duly certified by Professional Regulation Commission and/or a
holder of National TVET Trainers Certificate authorized by the
TESDA.
Careers in Plumbing

Master Plumber – a person who is technically and legally qualified


and licensed to practice the profession as Registered Master
Plumber (RMP) without limitations in accordance with Republic Act
1378.
Other Related Careers

Aside from the listed careers in plumbing, the trade is also


associated with many different engineering careers such as:

How to become RMP

A plumber starts as an apprentice and eventually may become a


journeyman or skilled plumber. The journeyman plumber who has five
years of experience in the plumbing trade may become a Registered Master
Plumber after passing the board exam given by the Professional Regulation
Commission. Those who are graduates of BS Architecture, Mechanical
Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mining Engineering
may directly apply for RMP examination but for those who are High School
graduates or degree holder of other courses must have a Notarized
Certificate of Experience for five (5) years signed by a duly Registered
Master Plumber. By law, the Registered Master Plumbers may prepare
design analysis, draft plumbing plans, and sign and seal the plumbing
documents for the building permit.

1. All premises intended for human


habitation, occupancy or use shall be
provided with a supply of pure and
wholesome water, neither connected with
unsafe water supplies nor subject to
hazards of backflow or back-siphonage.

appurtenances shall be supplied with
water in sufficient volume and at pressure
adequate to enable them to function
satisfactorily and without undue noise
under all normal conditions of use.

Plans and Specifications for
Plumbing Permit

All plumbing plans, drawings, diagrams, design analyses / computations


as required, technical specifications, bills of materials and other
required documents for all types of occupancy shall be prepared, signed
and sealed by a Registered and Licensed Master Plumber, without
limitations, pursuant to Republic Act 1378, as amended. and shall be
submitted in six (6) sets of the aforementioned requirements with each
application for a permit.
Retention of Plans

One set of approved plans, specifications, computations and related


data shall be retained by the Administrative Authority. Two (2) sets of
approved plans, specifications and data shall be returned to the
applicant and Owner, one (1) set of which shall be kept at the jobsite at
all times while the work is in progress.
Expiration of Permit

A plumbing permit issued under the provisions of this Code shall expire
and become null and void if the plumbing work authorized therein not
commenced within one year from the date of such permit or abandoned
at any time after having been commenced for a period of 120 days. In
case of renewal of a plumbing permit, a fee equivalent to one-half the
amount of the original fee shall be paid.
