THERMAL INSULATION

-AKANKSHA BHAKARE
SY. B.VOC
DEFINITION OF THERMAL INSULATION

• Thermal insulation is the

reduction of heat transfer
between objects in thermal
contact or in range of radiative
influence.

• Thermal insulation usually refers

to the use of appropriate
insulation materials and design
adaptations for buildings to slow
the transfer of heat through the
enclosure to reduce heat loss
and gain.
• Thermal Insulation in India is very important
because here the population mare than the
area to lived due to which traffic and pollution
1
is high. BENEFITS OF
• The importance of having thermal insulation
in buildings is to maintain a comfortable and
2 THERMAL
hygienic indoor climate at low different
temperatures.
INSULATION
• The thermal insulation materials used to
reduce the transmission of heat into the 3
place that offers resistance to heat
transmission.

• Every material transferred some heat of

temperature that has a higher temperature on
4
one side than the other.

• Heat always move from a hot region to a

region that is less hot. 5
• In other situation the heat moves from the
hotter region to the cooler region will increase
in temperature.
6
Thermal insulation contributes drastically
to the lower consumption of heating fuel
and thus to the preservation of our
BENEFITS environment, while protecting other
building elements from the weather.

• Reducing the heating cost-Avoiding

condensation to take place on building
elements.
• Reduced possibility for moisture
present inside the building elements.
• Protection of the elements of the
building envelope from the intense
thermal stress
• Reduced cost for heating or air-
conditioning.
• Sound insulation.
• Creating the condition of thermal.

THERMAL INSULATING FILMS
They are designed to heat up any
surface heating application. These
include temperature control devices
like a thermocouple (a sensor used
to measure temperature), platinum
temperature sensors and limit
switches. They can also be used to
make etch foil heater mats
USES OF THERMAL INSULATING MATERIALS
• Gypsum boards are panels used
as partitions and lining for walls
and ceilings and are used for
decoration.
• A combination of gypsum powder
with water makes it a gypsum

FIBER GLASS

• Fiberglass wall covering is used for finishing of

walls, decoration, renovation of walls and
ceilings, exterior and roof panel applications.
• FRPs are used in roof panel and wall cladding.
• Fiberglass reinforced plastics due to glass fiber
are durable and flexible and they are used to
protect the walls of concrete, steel and wooden
walls as well as their ability to form walls on their
own.
• Foam concrete are used for insulating
floors and roofs, to void filling, precast
wall elements / panels, insulation floor
screeds, insulation roof screeds,
prefabricated insulation boards etc.

INSULATED GLASS
POLYURETHANE FOAM SPRAY

• Polyurethane foam is widely used

in high resiliency flexible foam
seating, rigid foam insulation
panels,  carpet underlay, joist
cavity insulation, house
construction etc.
• Applications of mineral wool
include thermal insulation (as
both structural insulation and pipe
insulation though it is not as fire-
resistant as high-temperature
insulation
wool), filtration, soundproofing,
and hydroponic growth medium.

MINERAL WOOL
GLASS WOOL

• Glass wool is used as hollow walls

and drywall insulation.
Additionally, it is also used for
roof insulation in auditoriums and
suspended ceilings. It prevents
heat loss, especially in HVAC
ducting systems.
• Insulating glass is traditionally used at office
buildings, Hospitals, Hotels, Houses and those
buildings where large amount of heating or cooling
is required.

• Those places where humidity and temperature

needs to be controlled, Insulated glass is best
suited for them. Insulating glass is also used in
airports control towers, train windows, indoors,
double glazed windows, glass roofs, commercial
curtain walls, glass facades of high rise structures,
overhead and sloped glazing, skylights, canopies,
etc.

• Laminated glass or toughened glass incorporated

with insulated glass unit is used in safety glazing.

• It is also used in windows where sound insulation

INSULATED GLASS is priority such as conference rooms, recording
studios, entertainment centres etc.
