Use of Ev3 Lego Mind

Storm as a Security
Alarm
Research 4 Group 1
I. Background of the study

The goal of this research is to develop a

security alarm that will reduce the number of
burglaries instances in the Philippines. A security
alarm is a system that detects intrusions, such as
burglaries, Unauthorized entry into a structure or
other areas, such as a home or school.
II. Statement of the problem

A. How effective does the security alarm is?

B. Is there any significant difference between a house with
a security alarm and a house without a security alarm?
C. How long does the security alarm can be used in a day?
III. Hypothesis

A. Null: The security alarm does not effect on

the safety of the house.
III. Hypothesis

B. Null: There is no significant difference

between a house with a security alarm and a
house without a security alarm.
III. Hypothesis

C. Null: The security alarm can be used only for

at most 1 hour a day.
IV. Scope and limitation of the study

This study determines how to use an Ev3

Lego Mind storm as an security alarm. The
alarm will only be used to prevent trespassers
or burglars. The battery's life span is 9-10
hours, and it may be used again after 3-4 hours
of charging.
IV. Scope and limitation of the study

The alarm that the researchers will use

or specifically the ultrasonic sensor, uses
sound frequency to detect presence. It
emits sound frequency to read echoes and
detect any presence and not sounds.
V. Significance of the study

The study about the ev3 Lego Mind

storm as an alarm will be used to solve
certain problems or specifically help the
following: family, community and
researchers.
VI. Material used

Ev3 mindstorm - a hardware and

software structure which is
produced by Lego that will act as
the robot's main brain.
VI. Material used

Ev3 rechargeable battery and

charger - a lithium ion
rechargeable battery with a
capacity of 2050mAh and can be
charged separately.
VI. Material used

Ev3 ultrasonic sensor - generates

sound waves and read echoes to
detect and measure distance from
objects.
VI. Material used

Ev3 cables - used to link the

electronic parts of the robot.
VI. Material used

Ev3 blocks - used as the structure

of the robot that makes it
functional.
VII. Research Design
True experimental design is used for
the conducted study. Each group will
include a single research subject, who
will be chosen at random. Statistical
analysis will be employed to tell whether
accept or reject the hypothesis.
VIII. Research instrument

The researchers acquire all the necessary

data using observations and checklist.
Observation is done in the experiment to
observe any changes on the variable and
checklist to make sure all the necessary data
is collected.

X. Results

The experimental group where the researchers

applied the treatment show that the alarm can only
be used up to 9-10 hours and can only detect up to
1-80 cm, while the control group where the
researchers did not apply the treatment shows that
without the alarm, it does not any effect.
XI. Findings & Conclusion

The experiment shows that the alarm

was effective. Therefore researchers
concluded that the use of Ev3 Lego Mind
Storm as a security alarm is beneficial and
can make us, our family, and our friends
feel safer.
XII. Recommendations

To ensure everyone's safety and create a

safer neighborhood the community should
put this device in place such as schools,
homes etc. Future researchers can use this
study to determine if the same findings will
be established.
XII. Recommendations
The researchers recommend, that future
researchers should conduct more
experiments with more alarm and subjects,
that the current researchers where unable to
perform due to pandemic and lack of
materials to improve and strengthen the
study.
