Introduction:
Food Corporation of India is a statutory body established in 1965 under the
Ministry of Consumer Affairs , Food and Public Distribution ,Government
of India

It is governed under the Food Corporation Act 1964

FCI was established against the backdrop of major shortage of grains ,

especially wheat

Initial headquarters of the FCI was set up in Chennai but later shifted to

Procurement:
• The government policy of procurement of Food grains has broad
objectives of ensuring MSP to the farmers and availability of food
grains to the weaker sections at affordable prices. It also ensures
effective market intervention thereby keeping the prices under
check and also adding to the overall food security of the country .

operation at Mandis/temporary purchase centers /aggregation
points . Location and number of purchase centers to be opened are
decided in consultation by the State Government.

consumers without any gaps or irregularities.
