Coach Carter
The true storey of Ken Carter, who returns to his old high school to coach basketball, is based on genuine events.
Rather than simply increasing the team's performance, Carter sincerely feels he can make a difference in the lives of
his kids.

Challenges -

The athletes lacked discipline and had low academic performance.

They have no regard for anyone. They became entangled in gang issues. The players that remained in the gym
lacked cooperation, were unruly, and had poor fitness levels. They do not place a premium on education. They are
not interested in attending classes. All of this had a bad impact on his objectives. His goal was not only to improve
game of the player but also make sure that they will complete their education with good grades so that they can
improve their lives.

How he was able transform this situation?

1)Set specific goals and objectives - Carter gives each student a contract during their first appointment, outlining his
expectations. In exchange for playing, all students must attend class and meet minimum academic requirements.
They won't be able to play if they don't sign. No one is allowed to break any rules.
2) Take Strict action- When members of his team fail to fulfil their obligations, their coach is not hesitant to take
action. Despite the fact that his team is presently winning, Carter suspends play until all of the students' grades
match the minimum threshold.

Carter's move is met with opposition from all sides: his teammates, parents, teachers, and the School Board.
However, he is willing to put his job on the line in order to provide a brighter future for his students.

Results- There is a well-known management adage that there is no "I" in team. Carter assures that his squad
understands this by excluding everyone from playing, regardless of academic achievement. He's teaching that
successful teams win because of teamwork rather than individual ability: you're only as good as your weakest link,
and successful teams support one another He was able to unit all the students.

Coach Carter projected that each player might achieve far more than they could ever think by motivating the team.
He made them suffer and triumph together as a team. Carter had a great influence on every member of his team,
and he pushed them all to reach their maximum potential. This story got attention when he suspended his
undefeated high school basketball team due to poor academic results. When all were against this decision and
forced him to resign from his position. But his team supported his decision and did not played any match till their
academics results got better. So, he was successful in motivating an unorganised, undisciplined and arrogant
players to a good team player who respect everyone and achieve what they desires too.
Chak De India Final Speech

The final scene of Chak De india before the team is about to play the finale match , Shahrukh Khan as the coach of
the team gives a speech to motivate the team to play with all their hearts and is successful as the team plays well
with coordination and wins the game. This happened because:

● The coach was involved in the lives of the players individually, he connected with them so well that he knew
all their turmoils and pain points so he was able to guide them at right junctures.
● He focused on team building from the very beginning and made it very clear to all the players that they have
to play for India first and then for themselves individually. He worked on internal politics to bring the girls
together and asked them to focus on similarities rather than differences.
● He knew human psychology very well and worked on that meticulously throughout the movie. In the last
scene he gave a positive speech to boost the team’s morale while at times he also gave negative feedback so
that players knew their mistakes.
● He worked with his players on fundamental aspects like team delivery, understanding other people’s psyche ,
working on fitness , talking to them rather than just winning the match. He asks the girls to play like you are
going to show them how it is played and by giving 100% of their inputs.
83 - Leading By example.
The cricket world cup victory in 1983 inspired future generations in India to pick up bats and balls and changed the
dynamics of the sport in the country completely. The success behind the incredible team that made history was due
to the team's performance and guts as well as their leader, Kapil Dev and his incredible belief in himself and his
team. The recent movie “83” which beautifully explained those emotions, highs and lows also gave us lessons on
how Kapil Dev the leader motivated his team to championship in various ways :
 Kapil Dev’s performance in the tournament was top class and he led by example, in all three departments,
that inspired his team to give their best as well
 The leader’s ability to take hard decisions when required is an art in itself, since it demonstrates power and
focused rules and direction. Kapil Dev’s decision on dropping Sunil gavaskar for a crucial match is an
example for that
 Kapil Dev had a way with his words, an important skill for a leader, that inspired his team to perform and
give their best even when odds were against them as well as portray to the outside world (external forces, for
a leader) about their team . “ jab hum ye uniform pehenkar ground par utarte hain tab humara ek ki maksad
hota hai, jaan lagake desh ke liye khelna”; “ I say before, we here to win” and many more.

Many more instances and examples can be taken from the movie, like the determination showed by him in the
finals, ability to keep personal things of the individuals out of the team etc., that showed the quality of leadership
shown by Kapil Dev which eventually motivated his team.
