1.GM SOYBEANS
ADVANTAGES:
*These soybeans help farmers in
that they provide for easier weed
management. The GM crops
makes spraying herbicides less
damaging to the crop.
* These crops also allow for a
larger crop size as it easy to fight
pests.
DISADVANTAGES:
*GM soybeans are a growing
problem in Latin America. The
world`s most grown GM crop has
a need for more fertilizer due to
the gene that provides a
resistance to glyphosphate, a
herbicide.
2. GM RICE
ADVANTAGES:
*In poor and developing
countries, the staple of many
peoples food diet is rice. The
meals of the people in such
countries provide them with
very few nutrients. Also, a
deficiency of the Vitamin –A
can lead to blindness, which is
common in these countries as
well. Golden rice is a special
advantage to these countries
whose every meal is rice as it
provides more nutrients their
and helps those limit blindness.
DISADVANTAGES:
*The problem with the Golden
Rice is that it just another way to
have developing countries to be
dependent on those that are
developed, such as the western
world. Companies in the west,
such as Monsanto, are the
owners of the GM patents. With
this power, such companies can
force farmers to buy new rice or
can altogether stop the usage of
seeds.
3. GM TOMATOES
ADVANTAGES:
*The researchers chose to
enhance tomatoes because
they are a popular food crop
and can be easily incorporated
into a variety of meals.
Modifying tomatoes initially
improved skin. Incorporating a
higher dosage of anthocyanin
into the tomato could change
results of its effects on humans
quite significantly.
DISADVANTAGES:
*Another company, DNA Plant
Technology, developed another
GM tomato that was not
economically successful. The
company combined genes
from an Arctic flounder with
tomato DNA in an attempt to
create cold-hardy tomato
plants. The project was
abandoned and the so-called
fish tomatoes were never
marketed. unnatural DNA
sequences.
4.GM POTATO
ADVANTAGES:
