SIMPLE FUTURE

FUTURE PERFECT
SIMPLE FUTURE TENSE
=> “WILL/ SHALL”

NB: SHALL is mainly used with I and we to make an


offer or suggestion, or to ask for advice.

=> “BE GOING TO”

SIMPLE FUTURE TENSE
=> "Will" or "Be Going to" to Express a Prediction or
Plan.
Predictions are guesses about what might happen in the future.
e.x.:
- It will rain tomorrow.
-The year 2023 is going to be a very interesting year.

Some differences between “Will” and “Be Going to” are:


- "Will" to Express a Voluntary Action
"WILL" often suggests that a speaker will do something
voluntarily. We also use "will" when we request that someone
help us or volunteer to do something for us.
e.x.:
- I will translate the email, so Mr. Smith can read it.
- Will you help me move this heavy table?
SIMPLE FUTURE TENSE
=> "Will" to Express a Promise
I will call you when I arrive.
- I promise I will not tell him about the surprise party.
- Don't worry, I'll be careful.
-I won't tell anyone your secret.

“Will” to express a decision at the moment of


speaking
e.x.:
-I’ll go there at once

“Will” to express an opinion or expectation.


These may be introduce by verbs such as: think, believe,
expect and hope.
e.x.:
-I think it will rain tonight.
SIMPLE FUTURE TENSE

"Be going to" to Express a plan that we have


decided or intended to do
e.x.:
- They are going to spend the holiday at the
beach – in fact they have booked a little beach
house.

tense to talk about Time Signals
activities that will be in
progress at a certain time -At this time tomorrow
in the future. -at … o’clock
tonight/tomorrow
-In a few minutes

Examples:

- At this time tomorrow we


will be flying to Samarinda.
- At 9 a.m. on Saturday, I’ll
be sitting in Dr Holland’s
seminar.
FUTURE CONTINUOUS TENSE

e.x.:
- I will begin study at seven. You will come at
eight. I will be studying when you come.

- Don’t call me at nine because I won’t be home. I


will be studying at library.

- Right now I’m sitting in class. At the same time


next week, I will be sitting in the class.

FUTURE PERFECT TENSE
 PATTERN:

(-) S + WILL + NOT + HAVE + V3 + O
(?) WILL + S + HAVE + V3 + O + ?

FUTURE PERFECT TENSE
The FUTURE PERFECT TENSE expresses
an activity that will be completed before
another time or event in the future.

 “by the time” introduces a time clause;


the simple present is used in the time
clause.
e.x.:
- I will have finished my homework by the
time I go out for dinner tonight.
- I will graduate in June. I will see you in
July. By the time I see you, I will have
graduated .
Exercise Future Perfect
