The effectiveness of Livelihood Program

among Person's Deprived of Liberty

INTRODUCTION
EVERY INDIVIDUAL INMATE SERVING THEIR TIME WITHIN A JAIL FACILITY IS NOT JUST POSSESSED OF

THEIR NEGATIVE HABITS/SIDES; SOME ARE SKILLED IN THEIR SPECIALIZED SECTOR WHEN THEY ARE

NOT GUILTY OF A CRIME, AND SOME ARE PROFESSIONALS. AS A RESULT, THE PRISON INSTITUTION HAS

TAKEN STEPS TO PROVIDE PDL’S WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO EVALUATE/SHARE THEIR OCCUPATIONS

WHILE ALSO KEEPING THEIR MINDS ACTIVE AND REHABILITATING THEM ON A DAILY BASIS.
 Important for a prisoner is to have a will to change himself and then giving him support to improve. Many

of them do not know how to start a new life such therapeutic Community Programs are the way, and they

can enlighten their future life. (www.howtodothings.com). The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology

(BJMP) has adopted Therapeutic Community Modality Program” or TCMP as a new approach to inmate

management that requires new glossary of terms relative to felons and introduction of a new way of life in

confinement As set by the BJMP, the Therapeutic Community is a self-help social learning treatment model

used to client with problems of drug abuse and other behavioral problems such as alcoholism, stealing and

other anti-social tendencies as well as working with special group of individual like those in jails
As a treatment model, it includes four categories, namely behavior management, intellectual and spiritual

aspects, emotional and psychological aspects and vocational or survival aspects. Therapeutic Community

utilizes the “community” as a vehicle to foster behavioral and attitudinal change. In this model, the client

receives the information and impetus to change from being part of the community. The expectation that the

community places on its individual members reflects not only the needs of individual, but also the social and

support needs of the community. This community mode provides social expectations, which are parallel to the

social demands that the clients will confront upon discharge to their home community.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM

 Livelihood Program is a community-based program which provides income-generating

activities. As whereas the Livelihood Program seeks to curb and ultimately reduce poverty

by giving jobs and training to people, The livelihood program presents income-generating

activities to PDL during their confinement where they are able to earn for their personal

upkeep and for financial support to their families. The capital for the livelihood project is

either from BJMP for BJMP-funded projects or from the common fund of a group of PDL

for non-BJMP funded projects.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

 Examples of continuing and most popular livelihood projects of PDL are bags and purses, bonsai made of beads,

pastries, rugs, paper crafts, and wood crafts. To help the PDL earn from these livelihood projects, as well As for

the effect of livelihood program. As for as the inmates become more responsible and productive individuals.

 These programs can efficiently work if the persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) have been trained behaviorally to

accept such programs positively. The acceptance of the person to such training and behavioral reformation can

only take place if, despite the stressful jail environment, the PDL has a stable behavioral orientation and a

positively inclined personality.

GOAL OF THE

STUDY
is to determine the effects of the usefulness of the Livelihood under the Inmates Welfare and Development

Program of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in the City Jail. The main goal of this research was to

show the effects of inmates attaining livelihood program., this study will explore the specific sub-themes under

the Inmates Welfare and Development Programs such as livelihood projects, educational and vocational

training, health services, sports, and religious/spiritual activities. Furthermore, this study will also try to

establish the preparedness of the inmates for future re-orientation in society in terms of self-preparedness,

general health & well-being, social well-being, violent well -being, and environmental well-being. As such, the

implications of this study can help in the crafting of possible policy recommendations on the Inmates Welfare

and Development Program of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAM

The rehabilitation programs provided to PDL inside the institution are one of the contributing elements and a

barrier to their recovery. As a result, individuals are apprehended and taken to a correctional facility where they

can be reformed and given the opportunity for rehabilitation because it is realized that effective growth cannot

be reached in a setting full of negative peer and community influence

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAM

The researchers aimed to identify the effects of incarceration on PDLs in Butuan City Jail.

The researchers utilized descriptive research. It can only be used to create a causal relationship,

where one variable affects the other. Descriptive research has an essential requirement for

internal validity. The researchers utilized the following instruments to gather the needed data

on this particular research. The researchers first used the questionnaire method as the

instrument of data collection.

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAM

 The second instrument was an interview; an oral interview was done to gain more knowledge, especially on

the respondents, and emphasize the factors involved. The third instrument was focus group discussion. The

researchers also used books, magazines, newspapers, Internet sources, and previous theses to develop the

concept and contents of the study.

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAM

 To properly fulfill their obligations and duties towards their clientele, including but not

limited to the person deprived of liberty and the community, the Butuan City Jail Male

Dorm's responsibilities and issues with the implementation of the Therapeutic Community

Modality Program among people deprived of liberty due to drug abuse cases should be

presented and addressed.

CONCLUSION

 Therapeutic Community Modality Programs are indeed a very helpful program to every

inmate or Person Deprived of Liberty (PDL)specifically the Livelihood program for it

showcase their talents and to bring back their passion. It also helps their family to have a

financial support even though the compensation is not minimum wage but little by little, it
